Political Candidate Goes BOOM!

Ed Jany, a retired colonel in the Marine Corps reserve dropped his bid for Congress after it was revealed that he didn't have the degree from the University of Minnesota he claimed and that he also claimed a degree from the wonderfully fake Madison University. Note: standard rationalizations are in force, plus a new one (he blamed it on LinkedIn):

I am just shocked that he could make Colonel without the 'facts' of his degrees not being revealed.

 

It is strange that he could become an officer without a college degree. Assuming he's served for 30 years, that would make his commissioning date somewhere in the mid-1980's. I thought all the services had moved to college grads by then.

Interestingly, the Marines might have put the Madison fake degree on his record. While the Air Force has always centralized officers' education records--and documented them at AFIT--the other services were sometimes a bit more loose.
