    Accreditation

This is a accreditation of CEEMAN. I don't have any idea about value of this.

So....is this good or bad ?

    Thanks

If I have to use only one word - then it would be "good." I'm sure CEEMAN - IQA approval of a business school would indicate it has good standards.

What it is not - is mainstream approval of degree-granting, in any country. Each country has its own rules for that. I note many of the CEEMAN members are schools which have the normal type of degree-granting approval in their home countries. Some others do not.

This accreditation is a strong indicator that the program is of good quality. It is not a guarantee, however, that the degree will be recognized. That is not CEEMAN's job. Recognition depends on the school's having approval to grant degrees in its own country. As I said, many CEEMAN members have the standard, accepted type of approval - some do not.

Hey -- is this a test, to see if an old guy like me can still add 2 and 2? Well, I still can. You're asking because European University has CEEMAN accreditation, right?

Well, if you are -- then it's a CEEMAN accredited school, but without Swiss Federation approval. It has Cantonal permission to operate. That means it can legally grant degrees which do not have the recognition of mainstream Swiss degrees. It has additional programmatic accreditations and that means the programs are good - but it does not solve the problem of non-standard acceptance of the school's degrees.

Your results may vary widely -- or even wildly. I know of no country where a European University degree is accepted with equivalency to the country's mainstream degrees - although recent claims have been made re: Malaysia. Employers might like the degree becuase of its programmatic accreditation, though. It's a bit of a crapshoot.

Honestly, Johann, how the heck do you know all this stuff?! :hail: And when will I ever be too old to find myself giggling at things like "CEEMAN".

You've got that right. However, CEEMAN do not just specifically accredit programs as they also cover assessment of the business and/or management schools. As their (CEEMAN) mission states "The outcome was the establishment of the International Quality Accreditation (IQA), which was specifically designed to address the needs of business schools and other management development institutions operating in dynamically changing environments......". Meaning their accreditation includes standards for management development programs and institutions.

All that is true. And I have no doubt CEEMAN and IQA are doing a good job of it. Their accreditation, as you say, includes standards for institutions. However, their endorsement in no way affects the degree-granting status of each school. Its degrees have whatever recognition (or lack thereof) the country's authorities have accorded them.

CEEMAN/IQA approval says the degree program is high-quality - and that they like the way the school does things. The country's educational authorities determine whether or not the degree is recognized - and to what extent.

    More simply:

    CEEMAN/IQA approval = icing
    Degree-granting status = cake

It is great-quality icing - but it might not do any good without a proper underlying cake. Sometimes it tends to improve a lesser-quality cake - sometimes it doesn't. Depends who's tasting.
