Do we say "bye bye" to Maxine Asher and her dreadful accrediting agency & university

I was trying to find the World Association of Universities and Colleges today, and could find no Internet presence, and the phone numbers I have were not in service. Same with American World University, and indeed with the woman behind it all, Maxine Asher herself.** Is it possible that they have all sailed over the horizon? What, then, of the 80+ "schools" that claim WAUC accreditation?
    _________
** Maxine would be 83. She's not listed in the Social Security
Death Index, but neither is she findable among the living.

I found American World University's website here: AWU

Well that's interesting. Their listed address is now on Beverly Drive, in Beverly Hills, CA, at the exact same address as "Taste of Nature", a company that apparently makes movie concession candies. Interestingly, Maxine Asher is still listed on the website as president of the school, and World Association as the accreditor... but no info on how to contact World Association.

I can't recall if John ever mentioned meeting with or speaking to Dr. Asher, but I know the vast majority of us have not. So is this really something that is gone? One faceless, nameless, and "place-less" diploma mill is gone, yet a plethora remain.

Perhaps it went the way of Atlantis. Or, perhaps like Atlantis, it really was never there at all. Not really.

Mohammed: "I found American World University's website here: AWU"

John: It's a dead site. Both of the phone numbers listed are out of service, and mail to the "mail drop" address is returned as undeliverable.

Rich: I can't recall if John ever mentioned meeting with or speaking to Dr. Asher

John: Never in person. A few reasonably polite phone calls once at the time of one of her threatened law suits (she never did sue me or, I think, anyone else). And she sent me a copy of one of her two Atlantis books with a charming 'dedication' written in: something about how we have toiled in comparable vineyards; too bad we were not destined to get along.

Chip: at the address is a company that makes movie concession candies.

John: And James Kirk, founder of the phony LaSalle, had a company that made the red and blue lens glasses for early 3-D movies. Do we see any pattern here?

Here at the Schrödinger Institute, we like arguments like that.

Dr. Asher, her school and WAUC were over the horizon at least a year ago. I recall discussing them in another forum in mid-2012.

Maybe WAUC "accreditation," unlike the WAUC-ing beast itself, is eternal. I don't remember a five-year re-accreditation period. if not, perhaps someone should alert Dr. John Scheel of ACI, in Sarasota. I'm sure ACI would be glad to "accredit" another 80 schools. Major money, even at $3,000 apiece!

As I've often said - don't WAUC - run! Doggone - I probably won't get to say it anymore!

Maybe so. But I bet if you sent money, a ghostly hand would emerge and clutch it! Possibility of getting it back = ZZNB * !

I regards to the original question I would simply say that these endeavors never really seem to die. They are either reincarnated in another lifeform or turn into zombies.

Sounds like a good place to get an emergency management or epidemiology degree...

You're beginning to sound like Dr. Asher, Ted! Easy there!

Dr. Maxine Klein Asher's own degrees are real - Walden and University of Granada. The degrees she sold through her "school" were not. As many here know:

    (1) She's had a life-long obsession with Atlantis and claims to have discovered it.
    (2) She also believes there were 12 Noahs, who survived the Biblical Flood which also covered Atlantis and these 12 men founded the 12 tribes of Israel.
    (3) Dr. Asher believes her findings on Atlantis were "suppressed by the Jews and the Catholics" as they didn't square with conventional Bible history.
    (4) She recounts murder and kidnapping attempts against her, apparently to suppress her discoveries.
    (5) Dr. Asher also claims to be highly psychic, as were the Atlanteans, according to her.

Well - it looks like she's hung up her guns - and her "accreditation" seal. Interesting, flaky and of course her "school" and "accreditor" were completely bogus. Even though I consider degree/accreditation mills to be one of the nastiest forms of dishonesty, I think I've slagged her enough in the past few years and won't be looking to poke at her any more, now she's closed up shop. Occasional tilting at the windmills of AW(ful) U, WAUC and Atlantis was fun while it lasted -- and it lasted quite a long time!

I just want to know how you made the "ö" in your post. (I cheated by cutting and pasting yours. I have to do the same with our mutual colleague, Tony I-Omit-His-Last-Name-Here-Because-I-Can't-Remember-How-To-Type-A-Tilde.)

Rich: "I just want to know how you made the "ö" in your post."

John: Well for those sensible people who use Macs, it's a part of the operating system. Hold down any key for a second, and up pops a box with all variations of that letter, for instance õ ö ò ó œ ø ō You click on the one you want. Now can I pass along the Schrödinger joke that made the rounds here a few months ago . . .

Heisenberg and Schrödinger are driving along, and pulled over for speeding.
Policeman: "Do you know how fast you were going?
Heisinger: "No, but I know where I am."
Policeman: "You were going 108 miles an hour."
Heisinger: "Damn, now I don't know where I am."
Policeman (looking in the trunk) "Did you know, there's a dead cat in there?"
    Schrödinger: "Now there is, asshole."

For Windows, Rich, you hold down the "alt" key and press 0246 on the number pad. Release "alt" and voilà (that's alt-0244.) You certainly don't have to be smart to do this stuff. I can do 'em all. This site has a complete list: Windows Alt Key Codes

BTW - Tilde letters are ã alt-0227, ñ alt-0241 and õ alt-0245. I guess the first and last are more useful in Portuguese.

Obviously, no more debunking is necessary - but I couldn't resist this:

"Dr. Maxine Klein Asher (1930- ) is the author of two short books related to Atlantis. Asher announced that on July 18th 1973 her divers had found a sunken city with streets and columns off the coast at Cadiz. This discovery she modestly described as ‘the greatest discovery in the history of the world’. Unfortunately, a student claimed that he had seen the press release two days before the alleged discovery. The Spanish authorities began an enquiry and Asher headed for Ireland."

Just joking about the "Atlantis is real" bit. But I did enjoy reading Edgar Cayce's books on Atlantis when I was just a kid.
