They charged $365 to $560 per credit hour for an uaccredited program. That alone was worthy of a shutdown. Good riddance. They won't be missed.

Why did they lose their state approval?

They were ordered by the state to become accredited in 5 years, they failed to do it, and the state cut them.

Yeah, ACICS disaccredited them five years ago now. Time flies....

I didn't realize that it had been that long ago that they lost their ACICS accreditation.

They should lose their operational authorization because most people in Northern Virginia do not know they exist. If you ask anybody in Northern Virginia about University of Northern Virginia; they might think you are asking about University of Virginia at Northern Virginia or Northern Virginia Community College (aka NOVA).

Come on, are you really equating legitimacy with popular perception? I mean, no one knows VIU is there either, because their market is students who come from abroad, but they're still legitimate.

This standard would apply to (almost?) all DETC-accredited schools--which would fail.

The (DETC-accredited) University of Fairfax, right here in Northern Virginia, fits that point precisely. As does Steve's point about VIU.

Or maybe not. The University of Northern Virginia has reopened at a new location -- in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

I get that this place is a scam, but when I first read the name I thought Gee, that's a pretty good name.

It's a great name. And there was a time when it wasn't a scam, they were accredited back in the day. When they were in full bloom, I visited their campus once and there were students in classrooms being taught by instructors. But, things come and things go....
