BTW - I notice KFC in the address. Is this "School" being run from a fried chicken outlet? Thought I smelled something funny.

They deserve points for the name. The term "Oxbridge" has traditionally been used to refer collectively to "Oxford and Cambridge", the two best-known universities in England. Apparently someone was creative enough to realize that the term "Camford" could be derived in the same way, from "Cambridge and Oxford".

This is an unfair comparison. In fact, KFC's recently-announced degree program is completely legitimate:

Peculiar - that they would come up with this creative name (yes - I noticed its origin too) and fail to capitalize on it. Instead, they came up with a site that lacks both decent English and a credible concept, ruse or subterfuge to encourage enrolment.

It's sad - a derelict "mill" without vanes or wind to drive it. All the creativity is in the name. "Con" men with no "con."

It's not. It's not a comparison at all. I had no idea that KFC in Britain was offering a legit degree program. Good for them. "Sodexo University" has done similar partnerships with established schools for its fast-food workers in several countries.

It was just a joke based on the initials. I wasn't suggesting that KFC would actually get involved in mill activities. You misjudge me. Don't feel bad - people frequently do.

PS - I hate their food -- would never eat it again, but I applaud KFC's degree partnership for its employees.

I know, but I thought the KFC-sponsored degree program was so cool that it had to be worked into the thread somehow.

It's good to see DeMontfort reach out like that. As a former polytechnic, it is more aligned with practice than might be its next-door neighbor.

As for the OP, do you really have to ask? You graduate when you spell "cources" correctly.

Turns out "Camford" isn't such a recent creation. Thackeray used it in the same way in the 19th C.

Thackeray's Pendennis also introduced the term Camford as another combination of the university names — "he was a Camford man and very nearly got the English Prize Poem" — although this term has never achieved the same degree of usage as Oxbridge.

From the Oxbridge Wiki here: Oxbridge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Camford Name was also used in the movie "National Lampoon's Van Wilder 2 - The Rise of Taj" - a son attends his father's alma mater, "Camford University"

I'll bet the mill-owner might have seen the movie but has probably never read W.M. Thackeray!

Back around 2007, Camford U., its B-school and English-teaching subsidiaries were trolling for students in Malaysia and Singapore. It was mentioned in at least two other degree-fora. At that time, Camford claimed its main campus was in a PMB (private mail box). No doubt it was.

    Main Campus
    Camford University (U.S)
211, East Ontario Street, 18th Floor
#305 pmb. Chicago IL 60611, USA
    Tel: 312-283-3256 Fax: 312-283-5005

At the time, its site featured people with made-up names, with bio's hijacked word-for-word from those of known academics at legit. accredited schools.

I have now given this sad nonentity far more time and effort than it deserves. We all have.
