I was taking the Aspen Ed.D about 45% completed. But I was given a sponsorship for a Master in Financial Engineering course at a BM. Takes about 2 - 3 years and an attractive job. I am also an adjunct instructor now. DETC Doctorate won't be recognize for my adjunct job. But I am thinking of trying for an all online PhD or Doctorate in Financial Engineering which will definitely help me in current job and also in my adjunct work. Taking of giving up the Ed.D and trying for an RA in Financial Engineering instead. Will it be a good choice? Also is there any online Doctorate in Financial Engineering? Any advice from the experts?

I say decide on your actual professional goals, then stay with this program or switch to another based on whichever one will best help you meet them.

Honestly, since DETC (NA) Doctorate has limitation. I would recommend you to stay away from it. As much as Aspen University's Doctor of Science in Computer Science really catch my eye, but I just realize that DETC is not really for me. Even though I have no intention to seek for full-time tenure track.

But you never know what you would want in the future.

Agree, I somehow regretted my decision to take Aspen Ed.D though I must say that they are a wonderful school.

Masters in Financial Engineering? Are you working as a quant now, or plan to become one? I have always found that field fascinating. As far as online only doctorates in Financial Engineering, the closest I have seen are some doctorates in Operations Research with a financial engineering concentration. IIRC, Columbia has had a Doctor of Engineering Science in that field on the back burner for a while now, but it hasn't gone public yet (at least the distance version hasn't). You could probably set up a similar FE concentration with some of the other distance OR PhD programs

If you intend to advance in your practice, a doctorate from a DETC-accredited school is probably just as good as one from an RA school no one's ever heard of, either. But....

If you ever want to do anything remotely academic--writing, presenting at conferences, teaching--get a doctorate from an RA school, even one no one's ever heard of. The DETC thingy will suck at those things.

Go for it. When a golden opportunity presents itself, seize it.
