I am 31 and I desire to start on a path to get a BA. When I was young I messed around and dropped out of Cegep. What steps do I need to take to make this happen. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Mature student?

I live in your neighbouring province, Ontario. I know that here, you can apply as a "mature student" regardless of your lack of high-school equivalency. I think the applicant must be at least 25. I'm pretty sure this applies to some other Canadian provinces. I know some people who have succeeded in being admitted to higher ed. in Ontario under these provisions.

Acceptance is not guaranteed - the school will look for indicators that you have prospects of success. I have no idea if the same provisions apply in Québec.

I don't think the same deal works very well in the US. I'm not sure, but I think schools might be acting contrary to their accreditors' regulations in some cases, if they were to admit students without proven high school graduation or equivalency.

I could be wrong (and I'd like to be.) Most of the readers in this forum are Americans -- so maybe one of them could correct me if I'm wrong. If I'm right - and you still want to study at a college or university that won't take applicants without completed high school -- maybe now would be a good time to complete that schooling by distance . Just a thought.

I checked - it looks like Québec has lots of Mature Student programs. Here's the one for Concordia University, in Montréal. You have to be 21 or older. Mature entry - Concordia University

If you're interested in going to University in your Province, all you have to do is Google "Québec Mature student" and you'll get plenty of schools' sites. Bonne chance!

At Quebec Universities, you can just join as a mature student and enroll in an extended program. This means that you will have to take at least one year of extra course work to make up for the lack of the CEGEP diploma.
However, the catch is that the most prestigious faculties (e.g. Business school, engineering, law, etc) will be less likely to take a mature student with no CEGEP or without a out of the province high school diploma so you most likely would need to join first a faculty with lax admission requirements (e.g Economics, arts, etc) and then transfer to another faculty with more strict requirements once you have completed enough courses to probe that you are a good student.
