    Hi there,

This is my first post here.

I am holding an Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies awarded by the NCC Education in UK. It's a 2.5 years (7 trimesters) program. The qualification is at Level 5 of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) in UK. I would like to know its US equivalency and the number of credits I could transfer.

I am thinking of getting a US degree via DL. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

The best way to find out is to have your education from outside USA evaluated by professional credential evaluation agency that is a member of NACES.

In first look on this qualification you may be able to enter in to final year of US RA Bachelor Degree Program.
I think you may be able to satisfy 75 % of Bachelors degree.

The vocational diplomas in UK are highly concentrated with technical classes , US degrees have a mandatory requirements for General Education etc.
So you may have to complete General Ed classes.

My UK academic courses were reviewed by ECE and helped me earn my BSc from Excelsior College.

    Hi Lerner,

Thanks for the info. I am considering either PSC or FHSU for their affordable fees. I am not sure whether I should have an evaluation agency to evaluate my previous education or just let the colleges do it since PSC and FHSU do not require me to do so. What's your take on this? Will I have a better chance with the evaluation from an evaluation agency or the college? Which evaluation agency do you recommend?

The determining factors now are the the number of credits I could transfer, duration and cost. Honestly, I have no ideas what I am getting myself into since I have no information on how transferable my UK diploma is and looks like the colleges could only evaluate my previous education once they receive my application and transcript.

You're right, majority of the classes I have done in my previous education are technical classes. Following are the classes I have done,

    Year 1
    Computer Systems
    Software and Information Processing
    Computer Programming
    Mathematics for Computing
    Business Organisation and Communication
    Computerised Accounting
    Computer Networks
    Data Structures
Web Publishing with HTML, JavaScript and Java Applets
    Pascal Programming Project

    Year 2
    Computer Architecture and Data Communication
    Software Engineering
    Systems Analysis and Design
    Java Application Programming
    C Programming
Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL
Data Modeling and Relational Database Design
    Discrete Mathematics
    Information Management
    Logic Design
    Object Oriented Programming in C++
    Cognitive Science
    Development Project

FYI, I earn my diploma in 2002 and have been working in IT ever since. On top of that, I have also done a number of vendor certifications like MCSE, MCPD and MCITP. I am 30 this year.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ian,

Thanks for the info. Since you earn your BSc from one of the Big 3, do you think I will have a better chance with the Big 3? As mentioned above, the number of credits I could transfer, duration and cost are the determining factors.

    Thank you.
