What online/distance learning instituition could I seek a Master's degree from which allows around 50% of the degree requirements to be awarded from prior learning/learning portfolio, that is either DETC accredited or may seek such in the future, that is inexpensive??? I know that for a school to be accredited, they can only allow so many to be transferred this way---I realize that. Your help is greatly appreciated!
I just wanted to add this: I am not looking for a quick degree or a degree mill diploma. Just one that is reputable and recognizes accomplishments. Why is that so easy at the Bachelor's level but not at the Master's????
Master's degree programs are more intensive, and colleges have specific requirements/philosophies that shape their specific programs. Thus, colleges will expect you to complete more of the coursework in residence for Master's level programs. All that, and usually Master's programs are "cash cows" for their respective schools-- they may cost less to run, and the schools can charge higher tuition. Therefore, it pays for the school to have you sitting more in their chairs, and not someone else's. I believe there are also some accreditation rules regarding Master's transfer limits, but I'm sure those take a back seat to the other considerations I mentioned above.
Thanks. I now have a question about Master's degrees in Religious Studies. What could one do outside of a church with a Master's Degree in Religious Studies??? I am very interested in this!
A birger is a derivative of a burger. A birger is a small slider type piece of ground beef placed between two smalls buns and other such accoutrements , and is meant for consuming while driving, excercising, riding a bike or other such activities due to its diminutive size. Abner
You can aslo find a master's degree online but it's also good if you can get a local school where you can study for your masters degree.
In the many years when I paid close attention to these things, I never found a properly-accredited Master's that accepted more than 25% of the credit from prior work, whether courses or career learning. Sometimes this was by law, sometimes by custom. This said, one of the reasons I always put a "Bending the rules" chapter in my books is because they were bent. The most common 'bending' in this matter was offering a person with a great deal of credits and/or learning the opportunity to take independent study courses, on a pass-fail basis, without (wink wink) much or any work required. It is almost essential to have a 'promoter' -- a faculty or administrator in the program, who is on your side.
Look at this Excelsior MALS degree. You might be able to earn 45% of the units through Independent Learning Contracts (MLS 701, 702, and 703) and the thesis. Not portfolio but close. https://my.excelsior.edu/c/document_library/get_file?uuid=29bfef42-eba4-4e79-b241-4b3b24184c31&groupId=78666
Thanks Guys! I appreciate the info. The only thing I do not like about Excelsior, is that they seem a bit pricey for the Master's Degree!
