Is the Institute of Business and Finance Institute of Business & Finance::Home Page an accredited institution? I came across their Master of Science in Financial Services program and was wondering if the school was legit They also offer several professional designations in the financial services industry.

I can't find any accreditation information for them. That's usually not a good sign.

They claim to be "nationally accredited", but don't say by whom and they don't show up in the CHEA database.

Where did you find their claim of accreditation?

It's not accredited by DETC and that's often what people are indicating when they say NA.

It does not appear to be accredited by any agency recognized by either the U.S. Dept. of Ed or CHEA. None of its courses have been evaluated by the American Council on Education for college credit.

OK then . . . unless you want to give them every conceivable benefit of the doubt by asking,

    "Nationally accredited? Which nation?"

then we've pretty much established that they are a bunch of liars.

Usually I take point on giving schools the benefit of the doubt, but no, this case doesn't call for it. Thumbs down.

"Unrecognized" Accreditor - mostly does day care and elementary schools.

    Hi -

I dug through the old threads referenced here. Turns out the school appears to be accredited by the NPSAA, which accredits (primarily) day-care centres and private elementary schools. It is not recognized as an accreditor by CHEA or USDoE. It claims that its accreditation is "national, rather than ethnic, state or regional." That certainly doesn't make it a recognized National Accreditor, like DETC, regardless of how much IBF would like you to think so...

The website is http://www.npsag.com National Private Schools Association Group Offering Private School Accreditation and Teacher Certification. NPSAG Maintains a Database of 130,000 Private Schools

NPSAA appears to impose no standards of its own for accreditation. Its motto (on the web page) is "We warmly welcome you as you are."

As for me, I'd warmly leave this school (IBF) alone - as it is.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THEM! The accreditation is a JOKE! National Private School Association Group may sound fancy but any school can pay a fee to them and be accredited... They do not require a "school" to do anything but a fee.

As the school if you get your "MSFS Degree" can you then proceed to get your doctorate? There is NO schools that will allow you to transfer any of the courses taken at the Institute of Business & Finance to their college for course credits.

On the other side of that coin, if you are looking to learn a great deal and you're not concerned about if a school is accredited or if you can transfer any of these courses to other schools, then I would highly recommend IBF.

We've already established that. Here's a much better choice in the same field. Master's Program (Online)

Besides the degree (Kansas State) you earn a CFP designation and complete the education requirements for FOUR other professional designations. The school also has an on-line doctoral program - Ph.D. with emphasis in Personal Financial Planning. Click on it for details.

Just looking at the extremely high production quality of the NPSAA's 1997-styled website should be enough to convince anyone of the organization's true stature.
