I am hoping I can ask a few questions from Southern Columbia students. I am a UAA student here in AK and to say this is semester from you know where would be an understatement. My problem is I have short-term memory loss and all my tests are timed and I just do not do well on these tests but I am an A student on papers and tests that are not timed. I am looking to possibly transfer to CSU. I dont care they are DETC since I am attending an RA school and it is horrible. My questions are, do they have timed tests, are there any group assigments, how did you like it? I have heard pretty much good things only about CSU. UAA is terrible in their customer service. They cost as much as Troy State and are more than Lamar University (Texas State). I would look into Andrew Jackson for cost and customer service if you don't care about DETC vs. RA.
I am attending Columbia Southern University, and I am very happy with the school. The customer service is fantastic. Most classes consist of a weekly unit assessment that generally consists of some multiple-choice questions and two or three 200-300 word essays. A few courses do require a proctored final exam that will be timed, but it is open book. I do not know any details on the final exam as none of my courses so far have required a final. The vast majority of the courses I have taken require a research paper or case study in unit 8 that counts for 15-20% of the course grade. There are no group projects. There is a weekly discussion board; you are required to answer the question and respond to one student. The required length of discussion board postings varies among professors. As it was pointed out, there are cheaper options, and I would look into those if they offer a program that interests you. I am majoring in environmental management and few schools offered a program similar to CSU's.
