The Pensacola News Jounral reports that, "Pensacola State College fired a tenured professor Tuesday amid allegations that he presented college administrators with an unaccredited master’s degree from an online diploma mill that he obtained while on a paid sabbatical."

The school in question is Belford University:

    Hi -

Yes, they should fire professors who brandish phony degrees, all right. No problem with that. However, after reading about his conduct, I'm sure this man has a whole mess of ongoing psychological problems. Perhaps in his right state of mind, he would not have gone for the Belford degree, or done other harmful and foolish things of which he stands accused.

I don't believe anyone in his apparently disturbed state of mind should be teaching. His full-time job right now should be to get help, get better and then try and make amends insofar as that is possible. The fake-degree caper is the least significant part of his unacceptable conduct, as reported in the press.

Apparently, he did not have good judgement and lots of other issues. There are legitimate unaccredited programs in some niche areas but he chose for some reason to utilize a diploma mill. What were you thinking?????

As he taught CJ, he should realize (on a good day, maybe) that offenders must face up to what they have done and accept the consequences / punishment. Loss of employment is the likely (and deserved, as I see it) punishment for his fake degree caper.

I regard the domestic violence charges as FAR more serious. If he is convicted of those, then he will deserve every bit of punishment he gets - and would do well, in that case, to realize it's deserved.

Only if he is really guilty. Lots of men are falsely accused by scheming spouses.

But it does sound like he has some issues.

Oh if you only knew how many times I have seen wife’s and girlfriends lie on their significant others. Do you just think most men walk in the house and just hit their wives? Or can a woman not strike first and lie later? It happens all the time....more than most people know. A woman can slap a man and if the man touches her back she calls 911. I took a class once on DV and it blew my mind! My female instructor pointed out how flawed our society is, it allows women to slap men and scream and yell and claw and bite, but allows men to do nothing in return. Gone With The Wind Anyone?? She also showed us that women were three times more likely to cheat on their spouse then men and 2 times more likely to sexually molest a child than a man. Just look at how many women have been getting busted for sleeping with their male student as of late. If a hot 40 year old women sleeps with her student its cool, reverse it and a man’s going to the pen for a long long time.

And the vast majority are NOT. And I believe in the majority of the cases to which imalcolm alludes, the falsity is discovered. Domestic abuse remains a tremendous problem.

I said "if he is convicted" -- I presume that means "if he is really guilty" or is someone going to throw up another smokescreen about flaws in the justice system? I admit there might actually be some - but not nearly enough by any stretch to mitigate any deeds of most (nearly all) domestic violence offenders.

"Whup a woman when she need it,
Judge will not let you explain...
    'Cause he believe in justice
And a woman is the glory of a man..."
