I completed a graduate certificate in Finance at East Carolina within the past year. Their online programs are well-run, with courses mainly taught by associate and full professors, not adjunct instructors. They use Blackboard as their online course platform, and required proctored exams in all courses. Getting a proctor is very easy if you live in NC, as the UNC system of schools maintains a large proctor database that is shared among the 17 campuses of the UNC system and the community colleges as well. I don't know what the proctoring process would be like out of state. The only issue I had with ECU was that course availability sometimes seemed to be a problem. My program was only four courses long, but it took me six semesters to get all four courses in because the courses I needed weren't offered every term. I've been told that additional faculty is being hired to improve this, but since I'm not a student there anymore, I can't validate it one way or the other. Still, it's a good school, with a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs offered online. Tuition and fees are as cheap as you'll find if you live in NC, and are pretty reasonable for out-of-state students. ECU has a bit of a party school reputation, but it also has a large alumni network (over 50,000 active alumni association members), and its profile has risen lately because of an expanding medical school and the recent addition of a dental school. There may be higher-profile schools that you could attend, depending on what you want to major in, but ECU is an excellent value and I highly recommend it. You won't go wrong putting an East Carolina degree on your resume. Good luck!
