As of June 2010 the following institutions have submitted applications for accreditation to the DETC Accrediting Commission.
It is impossible for the DETC to predict the outcome of any school's application for accreditation, and there is no guarantee applicant institutions on this list will successfully complete the accreditation process. The list below is printed solely to solicit comments from the public regarding applicant institutions. - American Center for Excellence in Surgical Assisting, Greenwood Village, CO
- Abraham Lincoln University, Los Angeles, CA
- Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary, Newburgh, IN
- University of Fairfax, Vienna, VA
Please note, that as of October 1, 2008, the name of an initial applicant will not be published in DETC’s publications or posted on DETC’s Web site until after it has completed a successful Readiness Assessment.
DETC's application procedure involves a simple form that must be filled out by the applicant institution to start the accreditation process. The DETC does not have a candidacy status like a number of other accrediting bodies. In fact, DETC counsels schools not to publicize the fact that they have applied for DETC accreditation because it often misleads students to enroll falsely based on the impression that the school will surely become accredited. DETC's process of accreditation takes six months to a year to complete. Please note that many institutions find that they need additional time to develop appropriate policies and procedures to meet the DETC's standards and to collect the data necessary to document compliance with the published educational and ethical business standards.
This is the most current list that I see. -

None of those schools are too exciting to me but they might appeal to some... :/ -

The latter looks very interesting and appears to be on the up and up the entry requirements and reviews I read. No offense to PF or Ashworth ....but the DETC needs schools that are more like Andrew Jackson, some real contact with the instructor in classes of 20-30 students. PR and Ashworth uses markers and you have no interaction with teachers at all. The two apps I'm talking (Abraham Lincoln and University of Fairfax) look like they offer more of a real school feel to them and will help make the DETC more of a stand out. Heck the Univ. of Fairfax is a non-profit to boot. Teachers play an important role in fostering the intellectual and social development of children during their formative years. The education that students acquire is key to determining the future of those students. Whether in elementary or high schools or in private or public schools, teachers provide the tools and the environment for their students to develop into responsible adults.
Teachers act as facilitators or coaches, using classroom presentations or individual instruction to help students learn and apply concepts in subjects such as science, mathematics, and English. They plan, evaluate, and assign lessons; prepare, administer, and grade tests; listen to oral presentations; and maintain classroom discipline. Teachers observe and evaluate a student's performance and potential. They are increasingly asked to use new assessment methods
•Public school teachers must be licensed, which typically requires a bachelor's degree and the completion of an approved teacher education program; private school teachers do not have to be licensed but may still need a bachelor's degree.
•Job prospects are best for teachers in high-demand fields, such as mathematics, science, and bilingual education, and in less desirable urban or rural school districts.
•Teachers must have the ability to communicate, inspire trust and confidence, and motivate students, as well as understand students' educational and emotional needs. | | | | | | AS Andrew Jackson 2011

The DETC list is a June 2010 list, so it is a little older than I expected. Just out of curiosity though, where does NationsUniversity stand with their accrediation process? Also, for those who already have NU degrees, even if NU does get accredited, wouldnt that mean you still have an unaccredited degree?
It seems to be a great school and I would like to take classes towards a Master's soon, so I was curious where they stood!!
Thanks!! -
Who knows at this point with Nations. They are still working on it but have not made the changes needed to get it done. One of those is a proctor system. If Nations get's it then as long as you have not completed your degree you will be fine. Those who have already done so are out of luck. So Hotdillion still waiting till they get it then? Actually...now sounds like a good time to enroll!! :) -
Noticed this in Nations' Dec newsletter:
"Accreditation Progress. An updated and expanded Self-Evaluation Report was submitted to the commission that is guiding NU toward accreditation. By the end of this year [2010], we should have a firm idea of what improvements should be made and a timetable for the next steps. The next major phase of the process will be to submit forty-four courses for evaluation by course specialists. The specialists will suggest needed improvements."
So it sounds like their app is still (slowly) moving along, it will be interesting to see what DETC changes come out of the Jan 11 meeting. MTS, Tyndale University College & Seminary

So today is the decision day. Recall that DETC does not announce the results, whether positive or negative; they rely on the schools to do (or not do) that.
I find the Trinity matter of real interest. Recall that they had achieved candidacy with their regional accreditor, North Central. Then a senior vice president of Trinity, John Fyffe, issued a long and devastating indictment of a great many extremely negative behaviors by Trinity. Trinity announced they would be suing him, but never did. And North Central quietly backed off.
As Chip and others have lamented here, DETC has a history of ignoring applicants' past behaviors, including several that were actually claiming accreditation from worthless organizations on the day they got their DETC accreditation. I would predict the same will happen again with Trinity, and there will be much gnashing of hair and tearing of teeth here, and elsewhere, and life as we know it will probably go on. | | | | | Ashford University | Ashford University

Just took a look at Trinity's website, and (while there are of course no announcements yet) I noticed this on their president's Twitter:
The year 2011 has arrived. It will be remembered as the year when Trinity Seminary met its greatest challenge and won its greatest victory!
6:28 PM Jan 1st via txt Harold F. Hunter (TrinitySemPrez) on Twitter
So he seems optimistic about their chances ... given that in an email in 2009 a school rep told me that "we could be granted accreditation by June of 2009" I can understand that they would be eager to get this finally done.
I'm more interested in Nations personally ... not only do they not have all of the baggage that Trinity has, they also are basically free! (Tho whether they remain free when/if they obtain DETC accreditation is another matter ...) MTS, Tyndale University College & Seminary
