Has anyone on this forum received their PhD from a Grande Ecole?I am thinking of applying to Skema Business School (a merger of ESC Lille and Ceram Business School in 2009) as it offers a structured distance learning approach that is quite appealing. Unfortunately the French Grande Ecole system is misaligned to the majority of other countries - in France they are more prestigious than a university and are rigourous entry requirements, whereas their link with industry and accreditation by the French Chamber of Commerce sound similar to the former polytechnic colleges in the UK or Institutes of Technology in Ireland or a Fachoberschule in Germany which in each of these countries are ranked lower than a university. In fact, it would seem that PhD programmes are relatively new to the Grande Ecole system. My long term career goal is to teach in a University or technical college but I am concerned that despite completing a rigourous PhD programme, my qualification may not be recognised in my country. Has anyone any experience of this? Do you think it might be an issue?
