I was looking around for a few cheap classes needed in anything, after begging and pleading with Clovis I got them to change their minds about taking some credit I had. So it looks like I can stay with them and finish up. I do need some classes that would feel the gap. I though, DETC=Cheap, wrong! A lot of DETC schools are freaking more than RA schools. How do these schools justify their prices?

Associate, Bachelor's Online Degrees & Colleges | Allied American University $250/Hour
    Accredited Online College Degrees $274/Hour
Online Bachelor Degree, Online Master Degree, Online Associate Degree $320/Hour
Online MBA Programs | Accredited |California Miramar University | San Diego $238/Hour
    Yorktown University $275/Hour

]Paging Adam Smith! Paging Adam Smith!

    Market forces likely prevail. Except....

I wonder how much of it has to do with students not knowing about the less effective nature of DETC's accreditation vs. RA. Would the market see a correction if students fully understood?

It's hard to justify getting a degree from a DETC-accredited school solely on price--there are almost always comparably inexpensive RA options available.

I think you would have problems trying to transfer DETC credits to RA Clovis.

I would not expect DETC schools to be much less than RA schools?
    • If for-profit they have to pay taxes on property and profit,
    • They generally do not have research funds and grants,
    • No endowments,
    • Few, if any, scholarships for students.

Not to mention that public universities are taxpayer subsidized, and that both public and private (non-profit) universities acquired property and facilities years ago at low cost.

Clovis takes all DETC credits. My deal was getting some of my Finances credits substituting for my Algebra/math requirements and so on.

I was researching prices for doctorates earlier this week. In those cases I find DETC schools to be 40-50% of the prices of a typical RA program. Example: California Coast Ed.D. approx $18,000. Walden Ed.D. approx $44,000. Capella Ed.D. Aprox $44,000. UoP approx $50,000.

Cost is about the ONLY reason I would consider a DETC program, and even then, ONLY if I can determine that I simply cannot afford an RA program. (and I'd never consider DETC for a non-terminal degree at this point in time.)

I think I paid about $4500 total for my DETC Bachelor's Degree; I earned roughly 110 credits through the institution (CIE - World College). That works out to less than $41 per credit.

It has already paid off. I'm in grad school, and I just got a promotion at the RA technical college where I work. $6K raise for a position (non-teaching) which required a Bachelor's degree. So DETC absolutely worked for me.

Not all DETC are over priced, most are. CIE is better, as is their sister school World College. Are they still $41 per credit?

With CIE-WC, you pay per term and can finish essentially as many lessons/courses as you are capable of doing.

So the cost per credit depends on how long you take to finish your degree program. They also have some fixed-price courses that will transfer 100% into a degree.

I looked around their site and only saw the semester set up a while back, can you point me towards their individual courses?
