Calif. BPPVE mistakenly approves programs at 50 schools

    It's kind of inevitable that screwups will happen. California waited so long between the loss of the old BPPVE and the creation of the new BPPE, that most of the old experienced staff moved on and were lost. So the BPPE has to start all over again at zero, hiring people and training them in post-secondary education issues. (And who do they have available to do the training?) My guess is that the average long-time Degreeinfo participant probably knows more about this stuff than the average BPPE staffer. It's sad.

    I really miss the old 3-tier system. Sure, it allowed for a lot of bad schools to go around talking about being legally authorized by the State (under Section 94310c), but it limited the scope of Approval (94210b) to a manageable level. When California got rid of it all in 1989, it was faced with evaluating and approving a slew of schools and has never been up to it.
