    From DETC's facebook page..

"California Southern University is happy to announce that it has received a 5 year initial accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council (http://www.detc.org) This accreditation applies to all degree programs currently offered.

    More details to follow!"

I bet the next will be regional accreditation. The school is evolving into a very viable school. Over the past two years there has been many wonderful changes in program delivery and and developing goals to enhance distance learning.

What's so amazing? Did you forget TUI (Touro University International) University is WASC accredited and 100% online?

    Ian, I couldn't resist...:D

Significant also because that means there is now a DETC-accredited and affordable MA Psychology program leading to a CA MFT licensure... Interesting!

However TUI-U already had RA thru Middle States Commission (thru its then parent school as I recall) when it opened in California and later acquired WASC accreditation. I also thought that TUI-U had some campus based classes in the greater SF Bay area.

Fielding and Saybrook are both in California and are distance learning only, aren't they?

Not exectly correcto. Both schools require residency for their doctoral programs.

Fielding's national and cluster meetings are called optional, but you have to attend some to get through the program. And their clinical psych program requires 600 hours of face-to-face contact with faculty. The EdD has national meetings each summer.

From Saybrook's webpage: "The Saybrook University Colleges use a dispersed residency blended model of study designed to accommodate the professional and lifestyle needs of adult learners. Student learning occurs through independent work at a distance, personal engagement as members of a learning community, and face-to-face learning in a variety of residential formats."

One cannot do these programs completely non-residentially a la NCU or TUI.

    Accreditation

If a learner graduates in year 1 but year 2 the school gets accredited will the learner be grandfather in

Nope. Accreditation does not "grandfather in." Degrees earned before accreditation remain unaccredited.

Actually, accreditation can be granted retroactively. Don't know if that's the case here, but it is possible.

For example, Smith College enrolled its first engineering students in Fall 2000, and graduated its first class of engineers in Spring 2004. A second class of engineers graduated in Spring 2005. Neither class had ABET accreditation for their degrees at the time of graduation.

Smith subsequently received full ABET accreditation in August 2005. ABET then granted retroactive accreditation to all previous Smith engineering grads:

So the engineers in the Class of 2004 did not graduate with ABET degrees -- but their degrees suddenly became ABET accredited, more than a year later.

Yes your fine...were talking about a year. I'm sure you graded during the application process with DETC. Your so close no one would care, not to much changed at the school in one year I would think. IMO.

No, you have an unaccredited degree from an accredited school. I got my BS/MBA from Cal Coast pre-DETC and they are not accredited.
