Early this morning (in So. California) a saw a vehicle belonging to Sheperd University, a school I had never heard of before. A little checking found that this university is a CA state approved institution offering religious and music degree. One faculty member has four doctorates. Based on a quick review of their web site they do not appear to offer DL programs.

    BVNPT

Shepherd University also has certificate of accreditation from the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) to offer vocational nursing program. The effective dates of this accreditation are April 12, 2007 through the expiration date of April 11, 2011.
    BRN

Shepherd University’s LVN to RN associate degree program is pending approval. Shepherd University has submitted feasibility study to Board of Registered Nursing of California to offer LVN to RN associate degree program. Initially, the Board of Registered Nursing (Board) has accepted which means Shepherd University can start a new LVN to RN associate Degree Nursing Program. However, it is their regulation (Business and Professions Code section 2786) that approved schools must be degree-granting and Shepherd University is approved by the authority of BPPVE. But, the BPPVE is sunset on June 30, 2007 and is only effective through January 1, 2009. Thus, the Board of Registered Nursing deferred the action. At this point, Shepherd University’s LVN to RN associate program is pending approval.
    NLNAC

The Associate Degree (nursing) and Practical Nursing Programs at Shepherd University had received review by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. According to their initial review, Shepherd University has been found to be eligible to participate in the Candidacy Process, the pre-requisite step toward formal review for NLNAC Initial Accreditation

    ATS

The graduate theological program at Shepherd University also seeks to be accredited by the Association of Theological schools the commission on accrediting (ATS). At this point, we are advised to submit our application by October 1, 2009.
