They are accredited by the "Accreditation Commission Of University Education" (http://www.acoue.org/index.htm)....I'm pretty sure that isn't a government recognized accrediting agency. One tip off....they can't spell "Member" right (top menu...Memeber Only"

    I'd say that's a big "Nope...Not accredited."

    I concur.

Even a passing examination of their website reveals several raging red flags; the obviously Photoshopped "MCU" superimposed on the basketball shirts, to the obviously millish degree offerings (a Ph.D. in "General Studies").

    Stay away. Far away.

    "Is McCann University accredited?"

    No. Most emphatically, no.

Although if one was looking for something unique say a Ph.D. in World of Warcraft, McCann University might be just the ticket! :)

    "

McCann, Stanford and Harvard Universities offer low income students tuition:

McCann, Stanford and Harvard Universities announced in 2008 free tuition or low tuition to students whose family incomes are less than $60,000 a year. This is accomplished with a complete package of tuition, and work study programs.

Stanford joins a string of top level elite schools, including Harvard University and Yale University, that have taken similar steps in the last few months to help middle-class families pay for college. McCann University also provides grants and work study programs to help low income students to cover almost all educational costs with in one year. "

WOW - they're even comparing themselves to Harvard, Yale and Stanford.. I suppose more in tuiton than anything else, as a bachelors "degree" from McCann will run you $102k...

They too have a Viterbi School of Engineering just like USC, how strange! ;-)

    Good catch.

McCann just copied the text off of a Viterbi webpage, changing the intials 'U.S.C.' to 'M.C.U.'.

    The McCann page:

    http://www.mccannuniversity.org/c17.htm

The USC page that they copied:

    http://www.usc.edu/dept/publications/cat2006/schools/engineering/computer_science/undergraduate.html

McCann doesn't seem to be a very highly evolved species of degree-mill. It apparently still lacks a brain.

As of 1:25 PM PDT today (Wednesday), the McCann links just lead to blank pages.

Amazing how an entire university can disappear like that. Easy come, easy go, apparently. I wonder if it will be back after it's cleaned up a bit.

Ditto for the "accrediting agency"....vanished in the blink of an eye.

    McCann says:

    http://www.mccannuniversity.org/news4.php

That's a slightly rewritten version of this LA Times story:

    http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-aid12feb21,0,5278372.story

McCann even includes the photo of Stanford's old quad.

McCann's website is back up, though the ripped-off USC page seems to be gone.

    http://www.mccannuniversity.org/

I think that McCann's owner is using this board to help him refine his presentation.

McCann seems to be aimed mostly at Chinese customers and one of its Chinese webpages proves that its owner is very aware of Degreeinfo and of this thread. Check this out:

    http://www.allmba.cn/index.php/content/view/617/9/

He's rewriting Degreeinfo posts. The forum headers are the same as ours and the text seems to be an unattributed mixture of Eric Brown and Blue Mason, with their critical stuff removed and with a positive statement by a McCann spokesman added.

Wouldn't McCann University be abbreviated MU and not MCU?

The copied Degreeinfo material has been moved to this webpage:

    http://www.allmba.cn/index.php/content/view/685/9/

The page that I linked to a couple of days ago now contains material critical of DeVry U. that seems to have been taken from Wikipedia.

There's also this charming little thing:

    DAMN!!!!

When I did my taxes, I forgot to include my W-2 from DeVry for my discrediting other higher education institute activities!!!!

The ironic thing is I don't believe I've ever mentioned DeVry in this forum until now.

McCann is promoting itself very aggressively over in China.

Lots of interesting stuff there, on many websites. Here's a phony Chinese governent webpage that ranks McCann as America's best online college and best online MBA program.

    http://www.zxxw.gov.cn/blog/u/3263/archives/2007/20107.html

The information supposedly comes from rankings published in April 2006 by the American Journal of Distance Education. That's a legitimate publication and the results are obviously fabricated.

    http://www.ajde.com/

McCann is claiming that it's the leading online program in Korea:

    http://blog.houhai.com/user4/29823/archives/2008/199500.shtml

Here they are selling themselves in France as well

    http://universityrankingadmission.unblog.fr/archives/3

Despite McCann supposedly being one of America's prestige universities, right up there with Stanford, finding out exactly where it's located is strangely difficult.

The only physical address that it gives for itself is its "processing center" at 1441 Huntington in South Pasadena, California. That address turns out to be home to literally dozens of small businesses and apparently belongs to ASD Mail Services.

This Chinese McCann University needs to be distinguished from the McCann School of Business and Technology, which appears to be an entirely legitimate post-secondary career school in Pennsylvania, accredited by ACICS.
