The above text showed up in the right hand margin of my gmail; I just had to share it... ;-) It was the first or top sponsored link, so perhaps that is what they meant.

The FTC does have the power to regular advertising words or phrases (like "top") but they rarely do. "Organic" is one they regulate, "Going out of business" is another. And they actually have a rule in place to regulate use of "accreditation" but choose not to enforce it, more's the pity.

What's even better than "top"? How about this:

Cal Southern University, your over-the-top choice.

Another word that is so freely and generously tossed around is "leading" online university or "leader" in online education. How do they figure that?

    So how about:

Cal Southern University, your leading over-the-top choice.

better yet, "misleading down the other side choice" :D

I thought it was amusing for the University to start making exaggerated claims in advertising, when the whole purpose of the renaming campaign ostensibly was to separate the school from its past. I suppose that old habits die hard.

They could go to the approach of some of the early Soviet advertising, my favorite of which was "Archangelsk Tuna is said to be nearly as good as some American brands."

"Cal Southern University has never been called a diploma mill and banned by the government of Thailand."

    Just Curious

I'm no internet guru or anything so indulge me please. How did they get the .edu?

In my opinion, they were grandfathered in by EduCause because they already had a .edu domain (i.e., scups.edu).

Or "Cal Southern University has never been treated like a pariah by other California State Approved schools." ;-)
