I am looking at the NCU PhD programs, and the PhD in Psychology has definitely piqued my interest, what with the discount they offer to law enforcement. However, after checking with the APA, it does not appear that the NCU PhD is accredited by the them. Question - does it really matter? When we speak of regional accreditation of a particular school, is this all-encompassing, i.e. does it cover all undergrad and graduate programs, or? Thanks much
Hello, Yes the regional accreditation extends to all programs. The other answer to your question is the APA accreditation depends on your state's requirements for licensure as a Psychologist if that is what you are shooting for. Most states will only allow grads of APA approved programs to sit for the licensure exam and also there is the question of getting a post doc internship at an APA approved site which can be tough sometimes. Good luck in your studies!
A helpful piece from Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center discusses APA and resident-study barriers in psychology licensing. (Standard disclaimer: Such rules change constantly.) ...Law enforcement, you say? Speaking of Saybrook, then, you might want to take a look at "CopDoc," their graduate programs in psychology designed exclusively for sworn law enforcement officers.
