Happy New Year to all of you.

Just a little news update. SCUPS is now offering its courses entirely online using the COMPASS system. They are now on a set semester systems with cohorts of learners. Required student and group interaction in course assignments and with faculty at least once a week.

If I heard correctly, SCUPS is going for DETC accreditation again with only one of the doctorates they use to offer. That being the first tier doctorate - Psy D. I have seen all of the course outlines and course requirements for the Psy D program. It is very intensive and anyone taking that program on can expect to spend at least 240 hours a semester in course assignments. How do I know? Have a friend in the program. It is what one would think a doctorate degree would require.

undercover here, don't know if this is suppose to be for general public knowledge or for students at this point about the website for new learners. http://learners.scups.edu login as guest - pw sample

Their semester begin 1/9/06 and ends 4/30/06. The information I read from other sources looks very promising for the school.

Nothing on the DETC website lists SCUPS as an applicant. DETC does not accredit schools that offer doctorates with the exception of the First Professional Degree and the Doctor of Psychology is not a first professional degree.

Getting an unaccredited degree is very risky because the utility can be questionable. Robbie, you are misleading when you imply that there is any hope in the world that getting the doctorate you mentioned might someday be accredited. It could never happen. SCUPS is apparently suspect. They tried to get accredited earlier from DETC and failed. I see no reason why they would be more successful now. Especially considering that DETC would refuse to accredit them if they offered the doctorate you mentioned. Even if SCUPS did get accredited, someone holding or earning the doctorate you mentioned would NOT become an accredited doctorate even if the school became DETC accredited.

Can SCUPS apply to NCASC for accreditation or they can apply only to WASC?

Since SCUPS failed to be DETC accredited, I can't imagine that they have any hope at regional accreditation.

I believe SCUPS has a new president. If this is true; maybe under their new leadership they'll be able to fix whatever needs fixin' and become a DETC school.

SCUPS does have a new president and dean of academics. There have been significant changes since Dr. Mark Rocha come on board. With the new academic format, it is putting students in cohorts with online discussions, etc. more like you see with RA accredited schools. With Richard Gray out of the picture, the school is has a different atmosphere.
