Is there anything about it that indicates it is something OTHER than a degree mill?

I wrote a reply to Galanga's post -- but then deleted it -- realizing that it's not really all that good an idea to post roadmaps and such.

    Rochville targets U.S. military

The entry page for the site http://www.degreesformilitary.com/ is titled "Rochville University - Online degrees for Military." The site promises "100% Approval Guarantee For Military Personnel."

That's really offensive. There are lots of young folks going into harm's way in places like Iraq, and sewer melons like Rochville view them as a business opportunity.

    QTJ: what roadmap? Huh?

I hypothesized about in a way I then realized I should not hypothesize on a public forum while remaining socially responsible. What a world we live in.

Is Len the Len once associated with St Regis?

    another question for Len

Let's assume for the moment that LenW really is Leonard van der Walt.

Welcome back, Len-- I'd like to ask about some St. Regis history, though this is a bit far afield from the thread subject of Rochville.

In 2003 you posted a brief history of St. Regis at Degreeinfo, in which you described the modern SRU's origins this way:
From information revealed in the U.S. Secret Service's affidavit and U.S. Attorney's subsequent indictment of the Randocks and others, it is clear that Richard Hoyer was working closely with SRU people in the western United States. In addition, from Mr. Hoyer's posts at MilitaryForums.com, it is clear that he can become... impassioned... during discussions of some subjects, such as his history with the St. Regis organization. So it would seem that Mr. Hoyer is not a neutral source of information, and is not likely to find it easy to be forthcoming.

Could you shed some light on the following: how did Mr. Hoyer and the Randocks come to work together on SRU? Was it through a third party connection via Summit/American Coastline back when Ray Chasse ran ACU?

    thanks-

    Uncle Janko,

Indeed, it is I, it is I…………

Firstly, no olive branch is beckoning to me as far as Rochville is concerned. The reason for me having asked about this institution is that I have a friend who is considering this institution and I want to stop him from making the biggest mistake of his life if I can, given my extremely unpleasant experience with SRU.

I have not been with SRU for a long time. I am not associated with any other educational institution. I have divorced myself from any degree mill, including SRU, and I have, in every sense of the word, "disowned" them. It is just a pity that my eyes were opened too late.

I also need to say that many of you out there somehow think that I have intimate knowledge of SRU's inner workings at that stage. Please believe me when I say that I don't. I basically knew of some of the characters at the time with whom I corresponded during the course of my duties at SRU, and if you go into this you will note that I was one of the few that told SRU what they can stick their job where the sun don't shine, as I saw what the real story with them was. As much as I would have liked to have given you answers, Galanga, I cannot because I do not have them! The brief history that I posted in 2003 was obtained from one of my SRU colleagues then at the time.

So, that said, please allow me to participate in this forum without having myself loaded with questions about SRU and its past which I truthfully cannot answer. I very much would like to also be an accepted member at this forum without having all SRU's dirty washing piled on me for answers. SRU was dirt, SRU will always be dirt, the same as any other degree mill.

As far as Richard Hoyer is concerned, I think you said it all.

I realise DI's value, I am trying to rectify the SRU mistake I made years ago by having enrolled through the University of Johannesburg to gain similar accredited South African qualifications. These studies and research have already commenced. Please allow me to do so.

Well fine. Best wishes in your studies at UJ. I had the highest regard for the old RAU and hope things go well for you. Welcome aboard.

Indeed, the old RAU (Rand Afrikaans University) forms part of University of Johannesburg today. One needs to see the place to appreciate it - gleaming floors, well managed rotation system, spotless lecture halls.

Their degrees are also well received internationally.

    Have a nice weekend.

About 2.5 years ago, while living in Boston, I stumbled upon Rochville and discovered that it's address was an apartment complex in nearby Malden. I wrote to the Mass. Dept. of Education and the representative assured me that it would be looked into, but alas nothing was ever done about it.

Just now I looked to see where Rochville is located and it is still in an apartment complex (I don't recall if it's the same one). Rochvilleuniversity.org is registered to "Joseph Lee" 520 Main Street Suite 401 Malden, MA. Click on the link below and you'll see that that address is "Malden Gardens" apartment complex. http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/MA-Malden-Malden-Gardens-formerly-Pleasant-Plaza.html

Rochville University is accused of selling fraudulent diplomas, the use of which are illegal in several states. In 2009, the website GetEducated was able to successfully purchase an MBA degree from Rochville University for a dog named Chester Ludlow. The degree arrived within one week from a post office box in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Chester had earned a 3.19 GPA and received a certificate for serving on the student council.

Yes, he did indeed. And IIRC Chester went on to earn a Securities License and is now running a large Hedge Fund in Manhattan. I'm not sure of this, but he's said to be active in charity work - with the Martin Shkreli Foundation.

The Rochville University of old is gone, along with the website. There is now a "University of Rochville" with a contact address in Switzerland, different website URL and design.

I didn't/don't care enough to check ownership of the new domain.

Well, Bruce, I've not got much else to do, so..."University of Rochville" seems to be just the way um..."alumni" refer to their "school" on their myriad CVs. Googling "University of Rochville" only got me CVs etc. Google "Rochville University" and you'll find a site with URL slightly misspelled as www-dot-rochvileuniversity-dot-com. "Vile" - Freudian slip? It's spelled correctly with two L's on the site itself. And yes, this site shows three contact addresses - Basel (Switzerland), Paris and Iran.

The ownership of this site is behind a privacy screen. Always a good sign.

I'm more interested in why a divorce lawyer from Johannesburg would bother to dig up a 10+ year old thread about Rochville just to drop a link to her law practice.:dunno:
