I note Bears Guide, page 322 has little information on them. Perhaps this will help to plug a gap.

Its webpage of http://www.launiversity.org/faq.asp saying the university was accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in1997. Does it mean the degree was regionally accredited?

According to the California Education Code, life experience degrees are illegal. (Some of the religious exempt schools offer them, but that's different.)

There isn't any Los Angeles University on the BPPVE list. But there is a University of Los Angeles.

    https://app.dca.ca.gov/bppve/school-search/view-school.asp?schlcode=1935601

This one is only approved offer an MBA and an MS in international trade. It's located in Rowland Heights and its BPPVE school code isn't I-2036859. (School codes aren't accreditation numbers and aren't preceeded with an I. Same number of numbers, though.) I'm not sure, but I think that this one is probably a different school.

This one certainly offers degrees in a lot more than business administration and international trade. And strangely (or maybe not), I couldn't find a physical address for them listed anywhere.

The LAU research pages are kind of entertaining.

    Check this out:

    http://www.launiversity.org/re2.asp

A team of LAU researchers has identified a gene which plays a key role in the development of cancer of the oesophagus by triggering changes in the oesophagus lining. The discovery, reported in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, sheds new light on the molecular mechanisms...

Renowned geneticist Sir Walter Bodmer, Principal of Hertford College, LAU, conducted the study with colleagues at the Cancer Research UK Cancer and Immunogenetics Laboratory at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine.

There really is a Sir Walter Bodmer. The only problem is that he's at Hertford College Oxford.

How long has the University of LAU been around? Is it accredited?

The University of LAU began in 1867 and was accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1997. The University of LAU Online, founded in 1998, was among the first accredited universities to provide college degree programs over the Internet. University of LAU Online is now the nation's leading online university.

The North Central Association has no record of them.

At least some of the "research pages" at LAU appear to be simply ripped off from Oxford news releases. For example, the "LAU" back study is copied from this Oxford release, and the "LAU" esophagal cancer study was copied from this one.

There are more LAU "research pages", but I didn't bother to check them all.

Re: DBA from UOP by ULA???

LAU lifted their FAQ from the University of Phoenix too, with minor revisions.

    LAU's:

    Phoenix's:

Yep, they ripped it off from UoP. In fact they were in such a rush to rip it off that when they cut-n-pasted it from UoP onto their website, they forgot to remove the UoP name!!! Check this out:
    What a fraud!!!

Am I to understand that this fraud is California-Approved? If so, I think that says all we need to know about the BPPVE and its approval.

    Wow

It's very amusing to examine this site. They have a news section with headlines from CNN that have nothing to do with education. Some obvious web design mistakes just add to the flavor of a good, half-@#$ed site.

The funny thing is if they have been around since 1868, then why is the focus of their website on online degrees? Just what have they been doing before the advent of the internet anyway?

At least show me a picture of a glorious and proud administrative building built over a hundred years ago and claim it to be your campus headquarters.

    I've seen better.

I've known of a Vice-Chancellor at a certain "Danish" university to answer general inquiries.
