Also someone asked me about this school.
My immidiate response was that its unrecognized and confusing
school, later I began to think maybe I'm wrong.

Also this school that claims Associate membership in UVAC.

    International University - Bulgaria

    Quote from their web site:

    Recognition within Bulgaria

Degrees obtained through International University are awarded and validated by the University of Portsmouth. They are recognised throughout the European Union and internationally. Currently, within Bulgaria it is still a requirement that foreign degrees are validated by the Bulgarian ministry of Education and Sciences if you wish to work within public administration or to enter another university for a higher degree. We expect this to change when Bulgaria is accepted as a full EU member.

    End quote

Sounds like they misrepresent the recognition status.

I'm seeng this for a first time and maybe someone here
    knows more about this school.

    Hi Lerner,

I don't know anything about the International University, Sofia.

However, for UVAC see http://www.uvac.ac.uk/0101.html - it seems like a legitimate organisation. The big question is what does Associate membership of UVAC mean for judging International University, Sofia - and the answer is probably not a lot.

As previously stated I don't know anything about the International University, Sofia. However I don't see anything wrong with what they say on the website in terms of recognition of the degree.

Students would appear to gain a University of Portsmouth degree. The UK institution is the awarding body. IU teaches for that degree.

As students receive a foreign (UK) degree they then need to have it validated by the Bulgarian Ministry to have it recognised if they intend to work for the Bulgarian State (presumably in a role that requires a degree) or if they wish to enter a Bulgarian university to study for a higher degree. Such recognition is likely to become automatic when/if Bulgaria joins the EU.

    All the best,

    Brendan

    Thanks,

I reread the statement by IU and understand this the same way now. initially it looked like they were passing them selfs as sofia
Bulgarian university, later I realized that they are teacching for the UK degrees and not awarding their own degrees.
They do have BAC accreditation as well.
