Please help me confirm some facts

As far as I can tell, the university mentioned in the attached news article, AmerAsian University of Aurora, Colorado, does not actually exist. I'm betting that the conferral of this "honorary degree" is the opening bid for a degree mill seeking authentication. Help me out, does this university exist in any real sense? I'm ready to drop a dime on this school but I want to be sure. Does anyone have information in this matter?

No info, but curiosity because I have a distant (very) in Aurora.

It is not listed on any of the sites I visited for Aurora colleges or businesses OR for CO colleges. (not exhaustive, but . . .)

The Graduate Program in Acupuncture Studies was granted approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Education March 9, 2005. After the first year of operation, the Program will be eligible to apply for candidacy with the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). If candidacy is received, and after the graduation of the first entering class, the Program will be eligible to apply for programmatic accreditation with ACAOM.

They claim to be accredited by the "American Asian Universities Association," an organistation I have not been able to find any information about whatsoever.

Doing a seach for the name of their president, a Bambang Tri Cahyono, reveals a rather interesting result from our good friend Jeffrey Brunton.

Yes. Same person. AmerAsian was originally a Hawaii school (or non-school, as the case may be). I can find no evidence of their claimed accrediting agency, the American Asian Universities Association. Their website, rather amusingly, tells the bank account into which to make your deposit for your honorary doctorate.

 

Oh, I guess I shouldn't jump to the conclusion that it is the same person. It might very well be someone else named Bambang Tri Cahyono who is in the business of starting dubious universities.

Does anyone think that posting info about the mills may bring them business? Whenever I see "is xxx a real school" I think "shill" Not that there is any way around it.
