Crackdown on Unregistered Post-Secondary Education Planned (Malawi)

    It's unfortuante that the better providers didn't band together to form an accreditation association to try to stave off this problem. Perhaps they still should do so.

    Poor countries like Malawi have a problem.

    They don't have enough higher education places to educate their youth. Creating new universities takes lots of money and resources that they don't have. But opening the doors to new domestic private sector entrants just means that they will have lots of substandard universities that lack the necessary resources.

    That could explain how Columbia Commonwealth got some kind of mysterious Malawian endorsment. They might have presented themselves as an American university concerned about Africa and very interested in providing low cost education to Malawians. So the country said 'sure, come on in and offer your courses here'. And Columbia Commonwealth turns right around and markets itself to Americans as being 'RA-equivalent'.
