As part of an ongoing investigation, federal, state, and local investigators carrying search warrants entered seven private and commercial addresses in Washington State, Idaho, and Arizona on Thursday, August 11. Agents removed documents and computer hardware for further inspection.

The investigation focuses on businesses that are alleged to sell university degrees.

Agencies participating in the investigation include the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement Bureau, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Office of the Attorney General of Washington State, and the Spokane, Washington Police Department. The Secret Service is the lead agency in the investigation.

Searches were conducted at the following addresses:

14525 N. Newport Hwy, Mead, WA

601 E. Seltice Way B-8, Post Falls, ID

office of Northwest Business Stamp, Inc.
5210 N. Market Street, Spokane WA

residence of Dixie Randock and Steve Randock, Sr.
3127 E. River Glen Drive, Colbert, WA

residence of Heidi Lorhan and Douglas Lorhan
    14308 E. 22nd Ave.
    Veradale, WA

    residence of Richard Novak
    14628 North 90th Dr.
    Peoria, AZ

    residence of Amy Hensley
    8015 E. Baldwin
    Spokane, WA

I believe more information will be available through the U.S. Attorney's office.

    yes

    Yes.

The Spokane TV station (KXLY??) that ran the SRU story last May took an educated guess and had a camera crew out to the Mead address in time to see armed federal agents entering the office.

    Yeah!!!

Isn't this great. This is, of course, the St. Regis University gang, also involved with dozens, if not scores of other fakes.

The really big surprise to me is that the lead agency was the Secret Service, which I don't believe had ever been involved in the fake credential world. Indeed, in our Degree Mills book, where we spend a lot of time suggesting what could be done by various agencies, it did not occur to us to mention the SS.

Notice, too, the conspicuous absence of a federal agency with a three-letter acronym starting with an "F." There's got to be a story there, which I hope will come out, over time.

Earlier today I was looking at HR 3162, better known as the 'USA Patriot Act'. Among its provisions is this:

SEC. 105. EXPANSION OF NATIONAL ELECTRONIC CRIME TASK FORCE INITIATIVE.
The Director of the United States Secret Service shall take appropriate actions to develop a national network of electronic crime task forces, based on the New York Electronic Crimes Task Force model, throughout the United States, for the purpose of preventing, detecting, and investigating various forms of electronic crimes, including potential terrorist attacks against critical infrastructure and financial payment systems.

So the Secret Service apparently has been assigned a tremendous new task, besides VIP protection and combating currency counterfeiting.

But it's still nowhere near all of them... or even enough of them to do any more than a little rejoicing. After all, John Dovelos is still walking around out there, isn't he.

This is wonderful news, of course... but I don't know how anyone could not have seen this coming after the lawsuit was settled in June. A tremendous amount of information about how those people operate came out in that trial... as such things always do in civil matters. The feds only needed to purchase a copy of the transcript and all pleadings from said trial to learn probably half of what it knew, prior to executing the search warrants that are the subject of this thread, about Randock, et al, and their nefarious operations.

Well, if so, then it's pretty much the only thing you overlooked! I don't know how many reading my words, right now, have also read your book, but for those you haven't (and who have an interest in the subject of degree/diploma mills), you're really missing something. It's outstanding from front to back, with the longest chapter -- the one to which John refers which lists the things that can be done -- being completely fascinating. It's a wonderful, "must-read" as far as I'm concerned.

Given that your co-author on the Degree Mills book is a former FBI agent, I'm guessing that you know the reason why the FBI was not involved, and that it's a point of irritation for either you or Allen or both. So, do tell... that is, if you can!

Of the agencies that were involved, the IRS and the Postal Service (not in that order, I'm guessing) will probably file the most charges (or, more accurately, will probably provide the most affidavits to the U.S. Attorney, and testimony to the federal grand jury). Charges for defrauding the students seems like the obvious case, but it's the most complicated to make. Tax fraud (or at least tax irregularities that can be considered criminal), and using the U.S. Mail for fraudulent activity, would be much easier and less costly for the government to prevail; and it results in those convicted thereof of going to the very same federal prison... often for even longer than if fraud, alone, had been charged. This could get really interesting.

Well said... er... written... er... whatever.

Yeah... like we had anything to do with it. Still, goating feels about right, given all the criticism of Randock, et al, that we've always done around here. Hmm. Okay... a dose of gloating all 'round... whether we deserve it or not! ;)

Yes, indeed. Perhaps we should refer them to this thread.

One can only hope. [fingers crossed]

I'll bet, upon their reading either this thread, or the news stories to which it refers and/or links, there's some serious slamming-shut of assholes -- and packing -- going on in Sunrise right about now. If not, there most certainly should be. Any cop'll tell ya': Some crooks don't know when to be afraid.

There was no trial, so there was no transcript, there were no exhibits.

The investigation is a joint effort, with the U.S. Secret Service acting as the lead organization. It is an impressive thing!

I am so much in glee that I am torn all asunder .....!

But, pray, tell me, someone .......

Why/how on earth, could our shining star, and very much-applauded, mill-busters miss all of the degree-production/selling/operating action in the otherwise good state of Wyoming, especially when it is documented that an entity or two therein improperly billed and amassed huge piles of federal funds (your tax dollars) for education?

Ok, my guess that they will be NEXT! (...or, should be).

Yes, gloating is the word ......

    :)

Point, just because there was know trial doesn't mean there is no record. Many legal cases generate roomloads of records without a single day of "trial".....
