I have recently researched online learning. It has been 10 years since I finished business college and I have to admit things have changed alot. I am lost in the sea of online options. Does anyone have any recommendations for a bs in accounting program? Any guidence is appreciated
My first thought was to wonder why, since you already have a Bachelors degree in business, would you decide that you had to go backwards and earn another Bachelors degree? I don't know what you've been doing for the past ten years but isn't there another way to move into the acounting field? Move forward! Jack
sorry I apologize for the misunderstanding. I don't have a bachelor's degree. I am hoping to get one. I went to Indiana Business College and received a diploma in accounting. I would like to continue my education and get a bs in accounting. My employer has a tuition reimbursment program and my daughter will start first grade in the fall, so I felt like now was the time for me to pursue it. I am looking for recommendations. I feel a bit lost with all of the options out there and hoped that someone who had some experience in this area could direct me.
OK, no problem. Start looking here: City University Old Dominion University Stayer University University of Maryland University Campus Upper Iowa University Good luck, Jack
A few old accounting threads http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19406 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17130 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16517 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13053 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12931 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11043 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10796 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9124 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3087 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2876 http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2492
For starters, any good accounting program woth it's salt should prepare you to pass your CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Exams. So feel free to ask the schools about the CPA Exam pass rates of their accounting graduates. Rules vary state by state. Some states require a bachelor's only, others require the master's, and a few may only require the associate's. This threadlink http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19406 has a weblink to a clickable US map with state-by-state requirements for the CPA Exam and it also has a pretty good list of accredited accounting programs (with weblinks) listed in Bears' Guide.
Wow! In the future, perhaps I'll just pm Ted that his services are needed in threadid909090whatever. Saves everyone time. Jack (except Ted)
Thanks! Wow! Thanks to everyone for the information. I have a good idea where to start. I appreciate all the positive feedback! Angie
Another piece of advice: While I'm not sure whether there are any copies of the 15th edition still at your friendly neighborhood local bookstore, certainly when the 16th edition comes out, you might want to invest in a copy of _Bear's Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning_. It is the absolute Bible of distance learning guides.
Hi Angie, welcome to the board. My suggestion is to check out the very helpful webpage on distance learning bachelors degrees in business that was created by long-time Degreeinfo stalwart Gus Sainz: http://collegedegrees.tripod.com/ It's got a long list of schools (all accredited), descriptions of what each one offers and what delivery formats it uses, information on costs, and links.
Funny that I should have missed this in my list in one of the linked threads, being as it is in my own back yard, but April Helms' guide notes that University of Northwestern Ohio, formerly known as Northwestern College www.nc.edu , in Lima, Ohio, offers online associate's and bachelor's degrees in accounting. Yes, I tried it and www.nc.edu still works, but their new web address is www.unoh.edu . And, indeed, programs are available online and in accelerated format.
Angie: Note that we have another thread on the bachelor's in accounting going on: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20425
