    Hello everyone.

Interesting situation at work yesterday. One of my employees wants to get his degree online. He advised he was looking at Oxford or another school from England.

I spent a great deal of time trying to explain the importance of accreditation. I went over the differences between no accreditation, DETC and RA with him. My company will only reimburse for accredited degrees and that means legitimate accrediting bodies. He seems to feel that "accredited" can mean anything "accredited" or a foreign accredited degree is ok. (which it is if it is legit) I am concerned because there are many unwonderful accrediting bodies are out there. Although I tried, I am concerned this employee may try to scam.

My questions are: Is there an accrediting body in England that is legitimate? Can it be viewed as equal to RA or NA for that matter?

If he tries to use a "degree" from an online school in England, is there a way to verify its accreditation?

Thank you for your expertise all.

    Bill

There are some foreign schools that are DETC. Some UK business degrees are AACSB. But, in the main, look for the Royal Charter or the listing in the Commonwealth Universities Yearbook.

Oxford and Cambridge are fairly safe choices, though. So (I hope) is the University of London...

May one enquire as to the subject? Oxford's online offerings (as I've descibed before) are very limited.

You want an institution that either has a royal charter and can award degrees on its own recognition. Those institutions can be found in this list http://www.dfes.gov.uk/recognisedukdegrees/annex4.shtml

Alternatively, there is a second list of colleges that can offer degree level courses, with the degree being finally conferred by one of the institutions that hold degree awarding power. These can be found here http://www.dfes.gov.uk/recognisedukdegrees/annex5.shtml

Just look at those two lists. If what you see isn't on one of them, be prepared to get worried.
