    hey guys,

well i read a thread that had to do with what im going to ask but it was so confusing it just made things worse. so here goes:

i was planning to attend an ABA school a few hours away from my current residence. however, i recently found out that i have diabetes and would prefer to stay home until i adjust. for that reason, among other things, i would like to attend a CA approved law school half a mile away from where i live. the only question i have is whether its lack of a regional accreditation will have any bearing.

for example, if i do not want to practice law after getting my degree or cannot pass the bar, will an employer or the government recognize my JD and compensate me appropriately without the regional accreditation.

is there a website where i can check what the rules or regulations are concerning degree recognition for employment? do some employers not care?

any info. would be great! thanks

The only sure thing I can tell you is that a non ABA, CalBar accredited school must be regionally accredited for its students to be eligible for federal financial aid.

A less sure thing is that it might be easier to get work teaching law if your degree is regionally accredited.

There's no way to know what a given employer will do except to ask him.

It makes no difference at all for the CALIFORNIA Bar exam. Graduates of ABA schools and CalBar schools are treated exactly the same in California. Outside California, the differences are enormous.

Holders of unaacredited degrees that are in privet practice
    more or less do OK.

To get employed by a firm is another issue, most of the firms require RA degree and prefer name recignized school.

Samuel has a degree from Nortrop University and License to practice Law , He was turned down a corporate law position with an automaker stictly because he didn't have properly accredited degree.

I have also heard one or two stories of CalBar J.D. lawyers that faced discrimination in California government employment. On the other hand, I am also aware of many more examples of CalBar lawyers who have successful careers in public service.

    thanks for the replies guys.

i guess its one of those things where there are plusses and minuses. i might just start working after i finish my bach. degree in may and then get an mba (part time). i just dont want to spend 4 years of my life doing something only to find out that it wont get me a job outside of practicing law by passing the very difficult california bar.

does anyone else have any information? anything would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks again,
