Through researching, I have found that UNESCO once recognized the schools accredited by the WAUC. But since Dr. Maxine Asher has been in the drivers seat, that accreditation agency is not credible and the UNESCO no longer recognizes the WAUC in any fashion.

Who is Dr. Maxine Asher anyway? I looked up the WAUC and found that she is the President of that agency.

Can you clarify how did UNESCO recognized WAUC?
were did you read this and by whom in UNESCO they were recognized?

    WAUC web site

    http://www.waucglobalaccreditation.org/credentials.htm

    CREDENTIALS OF THE PRESIDENT

The President of WAUC, Dr. Maxine Asher, has four lifetime California teaching credentials, spanning grades kindergarten through college. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UCLA, a Master's degree in History from California State University Northridge and two doctorates, one from Walden University and another from the University of Granada in Spain. Dr. Asher has been a staff member of nine universities in the United States and has more than thirty years experience in the field of higher education with a flawless reputation for academic excellence.

Not sure if this is the same person

    ATLANTIS RESEARCH CONTINUE

As of October 2003, Dr. Maxine Asher and her team of specialists is continuing to research Atlantis in Spain and related areas. The new film footage and new film information will be incorporated in Dr. Asher's upcoming book (2004), "The Definitive Scientific Evidence for the Existence of Atlantis." This book is based on Dr. Asher's 30 year exploration of Atlantis, combined with the work of other credible specialists in their field. It will also have photographs of the "Atlantis Research Area" (under the ocean). Sale of the book will be advertised on this website. In 2004, the time has come to stop relegating Atlantis to the world of fiction, by giving it scientific credibility as well as a sound basis for further research.

Yes, it's the same Dr. Asher.

What evidence is there that (a) UNESCO ever recognized the WAUC and (b) such recognition has any meaning?

I think that UNESCO recognition may have some value to it.

For example in Dr. Bears web site he mentions UNESCO recognition of Accreditation Agencies.

" Accrediting Agencies Not Recognized Under GAAP

There are quite a few accrediting agencies that are not recognized under GAAP, the Generally Accepted Accrediting Practices, as described above. These agencies are not recognized by either the Council on Higher Education Accreditation in Washington or the U.S. Department of Education, nor by UNESCO or by the education departments or ministries of major countries. They range from a few sincere efforts that are working for recognition to many associations started by less-than-wonderful schools in order to accredit themselves. Following is a listing of many such accreditors that we have noticed over the years. New ones seem to be started every few weeks, so not every name you see will be listed here. If accreditation is important in a given situation, see the GAAP standards, above."

I know that in todays Russian Federation there is a level of recognition of UNESCO recognized agencies.

As for WAUC it's listed among unrecognized agencies.

Here's Maxine Asher's Ancient Mediterranean Research Association (AMRA)

Scroll down a bit on this page to see a photograph of Maxine telepathically mind-melding with a rock:

Dr. Maxine Asher is an author, educator, lecturer, and explorer._ She has researched the scientific evidence for the lost continent of Atlantis for thirty years worldwide._ In some circles she is known as a female "Indiana Jones," and one news article declared, "If Atlantis is there, Maxine Asher will find it!_ Dr. Asher has published six books, including Ancient Energy - Key to the Universe and The Atlantis Conspiracy.

    UNESCO and the WAUC

I come across the information in the archives of UNESCO back in the late 1990's. I contacted the UNESCO which stated they do not keep that info on hand so could not comment about info from that far back. But, the rep I talked with said that the WAUC has a "not so good" reputation and was not recognized by UNESCO.

I have contacted the WUAC with specific questions about recognition with the US DOE. I received an arrogant reply from Dr. Asher today. My questions were not serious, that the information was the internal affairs of the WAUC and if I had serious questions come to the annual conference in March 2005. She even had the balls :) to include a registration form. LOL> What a crock of s.... The feds need to crack down on that agency.

    Re: UNESCO and the WAUC

Could you specify what agency at UNESCO you contacted.
    Phone # or email.
Who do you talk to at UNESCO when it comes to recognitions of accrediting agencies.

    Thanks

the number is 33 0 145 681000 (international number) or you can email unesco at [email protected]. I am sorry but I cannot pronounce the name of the lady I spoke with. English was not her primary language.

Ask for Education Services and you will be transferred to that department.

Bill, I know it is not nice of me to pick on this aqua woman. But don't you think this would make for a good comic book series.

I can see it now... California Asher...the Indiana Jones of the Atlantis.

O.k. I will stop picking on her now. But really, she has made a mockery of accrediation and things like that don't help her credibility.
