This an interesting website for "Human Bioethics Treaty Organization (HBTO)...

    http://www.hbto.org/hbto/biodsg.asp

Apparently The Deputy Secretary, MARCO GUAGLIUMI, got his doctorate from BUXTON UNIVERSITY.

    From there site...

"The HBTO is an international diplomatic organization, structured as a non-profit foundation with provision to acquire the status of inter-governmental conference or treaty-based organization."

"Our Mission is to facilitate, promote and accelerate the ratification of a multinational, transconfessional & life-affirming treaty on Human BioEthics, with a special focus on pre-natal & cloning ethics."

So it appears that they put forth international treaties.
They also have a "Participating States" link on their website.

Here's the strange thing to me.
From the "degreeinfo" site, i have found that Buxton U is not a "real" school.
The Bio"ETHICS" website has their deputy secretary as receiving his doctorate from Buxton.

Does anyone else find it ironic that an institution dealing with ETHICS claims doctorates from "fake" schools??

    bioethics or sumpin'

    Hi Larry:

Welcome aboard and thanks for the detective work. Well done! Since I don't want to get into my views on treaties and such (this not being a political forum thread), all I'll say is that yes, it is a bit ironic. Of course, by saying a straight cash-for-no work degree exchange is questionable, you are now in the ranks of degreeinfo "elitests," to use the common spelling employed by mills, shills, and assorted pills.

The link didn't work when I tried it, but I'll take another shot at it later. This is intriguing.

Again, welcome to the serried ranks.

I figured that if there is really a Human Bioethics Treaty, the US State Department must know about it.

But Google searches for 'human bioethics treaty' site:.gov and 'human bioethics treaty organization' site:.gov both produced no hits.

    Here's the HBTO's faq:

    http://www.hbto.org/hbto/faq.asp

They talk about some mysterious Pan-African Summit that they are involved with, but all in all, it looks to me like a rather grandiose anti-abortion organization.

Apparently the organization's goal is to initiate a international Human Bioethics Treaty banning abortion and cloning by 2010.

Whois shows an anonymous registration firm in Scottsdale AZ.

    Their contact page has:

US EXECUTIVE OFFICE: HUMAN BIOETHICS TREATY ORGANIZATION
    1025 Connecticut Avenue NW 1000/1012

One of the sites that links to them has a page design very similar to hbto.org. The "Order of Saint John Chrysosotom" apparently confers "knighthoods":

    http://www.orthodox-church.info/order_saint_john_chrysostom/ob/being.asp

Whois for the order produces a registration at the same DC address that HBTO is using:

Registrant ID:C2647622-LRMS Registrant Name:CEO CFO Registrant Organization:ICXC, Inc. Registrant Street1:Republic of Lomar Foundation Center Registrant Street2:1025 Connecticut Avenue NW 1012 Registrant City:Washington Registrant State/Province: District of Columbia Registrant Postal Code:20036 Registrant Country:US Registrant Phone:+00.17029959763 Registrant FAX:+00.17029959763 Registrant Email:[email protected]

    The Republic of Lomar Foundation

    http://www.republic-of-lomar.org

seems to be defunct. The "libertarian microstate" that supposedly only exists in cyberpace is now doing business as the Regency of Lomar:

    http://www.rolfoundation.org/

    They distribute "diplomatic credentials".

A Google search for them, using both spellings (organisation and organization) claims only 330. However, when removing duplicate (very similar) entries, as well as hbto.org entries gives fewer than 20 results.

Most of those 330 sites (247 of them) have the hbto.org domain.

Thanx for the welcome uncle janko.

I checked out the website that confers "knighthood".
Wow! I can't wait to put my knightship on my resume. :D

With the combination Buxton and the "Order of Saint John Chrysosotom" my title could be...

    Sir Larry, PhD

Aren't you setting your sights a bit low? They could probably set up (or resurrect) a small principality for you.

    Prince Larry?

Yes. But this could cost up to an additional $100.00. Then, of course, you'll want the requisite documents (constitution, treaties, articles of parliament, associated fluff and whatever), this will be at least another $100.00 (more if you make the special order that includes embossed seals, etc.) Then there's the whole issue of the name. What can we name this principality? Larryland? No, that won't do. The Sovereign Principality of . . . Larry? No, I think perhaps it's best if Larry just thinks about this for a while. ;)

    less is more...more or less

So, the less principle the more principal, the more principal the more principality...or something like that. Wow. Ruritania here I come!

The closest we've come was a proposed UN Treaty banning human cloning. Two separate proposals were considered last year (one of which would have banned all forms of cloning, and the other of which would have banned only reproductive cloning). For a succinct statement of status see Reproductive cloning of human beings: status of the debate in the United Nations General Assembly.

I work in this field, and I've never (until now) heard of the Human Bioethics Treaty Organization.

Oh, right. Some amateur outfit pretending to be part of the UN--no, they don't say that but look at the "seal" and the lingo--really inspires just piles of um ethical confidence. Gee, I'm pro-life. Maybe I can be an ambassador or sumpin and git them special license plates so I can park anywhere I want to. Wowee!

Somebody is making changes to these webpages at the current time 9:50 AM PST Feb.14. Perhaps they are aware of this thread.

The "Order of St. John Chrysostom" links no longer work. (Orthodox-church.info is still up.) And some of the links on the HBTO site are now dead as well.

But I did find this (don't know how long it will last though):

It was inevitable, given the knighthoods and the diplomatic credentials... HBTO operates its own "university" as well, called Euclid University:

    http://www.hbto.org/euclid/

You can (perhaps for a short time) see one of their diplomas (for a Ph.D. in Comparative Theology) displayed here:

    http://www.hbto.org/euclid/overview.asp

I looked at their accreditation page and they were upfront about saying they aren't accredited and if a student needs to transfer Euclid credits, they need to be careful.
