Since I joined this forum, I have come to learn so much about distance education, alternative education, or whatever name fits the subject. The opportunity that I have in stumbling to this website and also, the opportunity that was extended to me to become a member, has allowed me to read many professional views about distant education. These views were very solid and at best, opened the eyes of many readers to know the scrupulous and unscrupulous distant education outlets that are available in the educational market.

Personally, I could not believe that there are so many fraudulent and unscrupulous educational markets out there. Wow, imagine University of the Holy Land as provided by our own "Galanga" or other educational markets that are not worthy of the name that they bear. People, please be careful.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, I wanted to thank all members that have contributed immensely in properly guiding readers to know the difference between real and fake educational markets. I will tell you, a lot of people do not know the difference between these markets. I came from Nigeria and completed my bachelors, masters and doctorate education at the University of Texas (Longhorn forever) not knowing "diddly" about accreditation. Boy, I am glad I went to Texas. from this source, now, I know more.

Back home where I am from (Nigeria), students that came to the USA in the late seventies and early eighties and attend colleges based on their state ownership. We tend to believe that a college that bears "......state university" in its name is automatically a good college that is owned by the particular state. Now, imagine what those students that are still contemplating coming to the USA will think of "Central State University" in Riverside, California. No doubt, they will think that it is a state owned college. If they attend this college, they would have lost so much money before they found that it is not a state owned college and not accredited.

First of all, I thank all members that have expressed their views that teach members the difference between these educational markets and especially, on accreditation. I must particularly express my profound gratitude to Gus Sainz, Eli, Dr. Gina, Uncle Janko, Bill Davison, Bill Huffman, A lady that enrolled for her Ph.D. at Henley, Russell, Plscott, Dr. Rich Douglass, Dr. Bear, Mary A, Dr. Ike Okonkwo, Oxpecker, David Boyd, Galanga, Oko, Dennis Ruhl, Andy Borchers, Mark Isreal ( Ihope is fine now), Kirkland, Jack Tracey, Marylynd, Anthony Pina, A lady somewhere in the persian gulf studying for her Ph.D., Dr. Glover, Randell1234, and the list goes on. If you are a doctor and I did not recognize your title, my many apologies to you. For all others, I thank you as well. Your views are equally appreciated.

Above all, I must thank the moderators and administrators. They have done a "fantastick" job. My quest for enhanced knowledge on accreditation continues. Thank you all.

Thank you for your very kind words.

This is precisely why I played whack-a-mole with the California "Central State (sic) University" to distinguish it from the RA and HBCU Central State University in Ohio.

Also, thank you for your own many and valuable contributions to this forum.

You're right! This place is great. Thanks for the compliments, I know that most of what I've learned about DL I learned from these people as well. I hope you'll continue to make your own contributions.

    thank you!

    Thank you!

Think how the world might be if all people put a small amount of energy into keeping their neighbors safe, and extended their sense of "neighborhhod" to include distant strangers. No war, no famine, a feeling everywhere of safety and community.

Bringing into the light the ugly things that want to stay hidden is a small part of this, the acts we do to protect each other.

    regards,
    G

Thanks, cehi, for your kind words!

I can certainly echo the utility of degreeinfo. Thanks to the knowledge I've gained by participating in this forum, I've now been able to save my uni real $$ in identifying applicants that our programs have wanted to interview for teaching positions (by videoconference -- very expensive), but that had unaccredited and/or diploma mill degrees. No one else caught it, and now all applications with unfamiliar schools listed are forwarded to me for verification before scheduling an interview.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

Thank you Cehi for your kind words and your own contribution also. Like you I am from Nigeria and arrived here in the early eighties. I have always been cautious and made sure before I left home to seek admissions into only accredited schools through the U.S Embassy in Lagos. Not many people take this route and they often fall prey to dubious schools.

Although all my degrees and certificates have been from B & M schools, as one from Nigeria where distance education has always been available for as long as I can remember, I am determined to convince people that the mode of instruction is irrelevant as long as there is quality and accreditation to back up that quality.

Your kind words and those that I sometimes receive privately have convinced me that my time in this forum is a time well spent. I also thank this forum for its services to educational knowledge seekers worldwide. I hope we can one day put unaccredited and fraudulent schools out of business. That would be a blast.

I think there are many of us that would not know or understand much about education or specifically distance learning without this site, and sites like this.

Behi, it is nice to see you have come to America and become so successful.

    Hi Cehi,

Thank you for your kind words. Personally, I also benefited from this forum. You know, unlike in the traditional educational settings, DL can make you feel lonesome. When I was studying for my PhD, this forum provided me the comradeship that I needed to propel frontward and complete my study. Overall, I think that this forum is a good place for DL aficionados to hang out.
