I have identified five law schools in California that are accredited by the California State Bar and WASC but are not ABA accredited. There may be more.

Most CalBar accredited law schools are NOT R/A. No law school in California may be regionally accredited unless it is also either ABA or CalBar accredited.

Does anyone know what if any difference regional accreditation makes to students at non ABA CalBar accredited schools in terms of federal financial aid?

(Western State, LaVern, New College, San Jaquin, and Humphries, in case you're curious)

(Technically, ABA schools are a kind of CalBar accredited school)

The California Committee of Bar Examiners is not an accrediting body recognized by the Federal Department of Education. Therefore, CBE accreditation alone will not qualify a school for Title IV.

The ABA is a recognized accrediting body.

That's why some California, non-ABA law schools sought RA accreditation.

Ah. So there's no federal Stafford loans, Perkins grants, and the like.

R/A would be a significant financial advantage to the student, then.

Oh, I think JFK is WASC accredited, too.

As long as it has a Federal Search Code, then you can get financial aid. Check
    http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/fotw0506/fslookup.htm.

I noticed Western State had one, but I didn'r check the others.

Hm. Interesting. WSU is a free standing law school. While they were ABA, they were eligible; now, apparently, they are eligible only if they are R/A.

BTW, they've cut their tuition substantially if I read their web site right.
