Basically, it gives unaccredited colleges 5 years to gain accreditation or shut down. I've come across several legitimate unaccredited schools that are non-accredited by virtue of their newness. It's not fair to lump them in with diploma mills since, by all measures, they seem to be doing their very best to provide a legitimate quality education. South College (which has a chain of REAL business schools with REAL classrooms and REAL teachers in the mid-South) is an example. As has been pointed out here many times, every college has to earn its accreditation with time. This seems like a reasonable means of weeding out the shysters while giving the legitimate new schools a fair shot. It's a real struggle for new schools to distance themselves from the diploma mills. The DETC and RA agencies need to do their part too, by giving them a reasonable evaluation ASAP. I'm interested in your opinions
