Monterrey Law School is a CalBar accredited non ABA resident 4 year private law school. A degree from Monterrey costs about $35,000 total tuition, or about the same as tuition for a single year at Stanford. Monterrey students are exempt from the Baby Bar.

Monterrey seems to be more or less representative of CalBar programs. A few of the more expensive schools are also R/A, such as LaVern, New College, and Humpheries.

In view of the Professional Degree Fee now being levied on J.D. students at all four UC campuses, a Monterrey degree (or similar) looks very attractive to me in financial terms.

If I were a potential California law student, I'd look very closely indeed at one of these schools, especially if I were interested in a public sector or public interest career.

    Thoughts?
