I am corresponding with a person in China who is very upset to learn that American Central University, where he claims to have put in a great deal of time in classrooms, does not have recognized US accreditation.

I have long assumed that the spurious International Distance Education and Training Council (idetc.org), which accredits every school that is also accredited by the real DETC plus American Central University, was somehow associated with American Central.

A search just now found that the I-DETC site is registered to the name Mark Wilson.

There is a person named Mark Wilson who is the author of quite a decent book on distance degrees. It is a fairly common name -- so I have written to him to ask if he has involvement with the I-DETC.

Very kind, given the allegations about how it became a decent book.

    ACU morphs into ACU

If you hunt around on DegreeInfo, you'll find posts from last year describing how a new version of American Coastline University (www.amercoastuniv.org; see this link) arose, perhaps to poach customers from the older version of ACU (www.amercoastuniv.edu) that Hawaii concluded was controlled by Richard J. Hoyer.

The non-Hoyer ACU folded its tents and silently stole away after a few weeks. A new ACU, named "American Central University" appeared, with similar internet information to that of the pounded-into-dust instantiation of ACU. It seems likely that it is associated with the same operators as the non-Hoyer American Coastline.
