    Apostille
Is Apostille good for Degree authenticity? Is it really accepted by countries?

Read the foollowing and comment please

In accordance with the resolutions reached at The Hague Convention held on October 5th, 1961, diplomas, certificates and transcripts issued by universities in one country can be officially legalised in other countries if they are accompanied by a notarial certification.
The Apostille, which authenticates the signatures and stamps appearing on the document is becoming Increasingly popular. Countries around the world are adopting this validation procedure for its simplicity and worldwide acceptance.

This was already posted on another thread. It is poor netiquette to post it in two different areas.

"No" and "no" are the short answers.

Apostille is the equivalent to a "notarized" copy. All it says is that the degree has been notarized and has been granted by the institution located in the place of the apostille. It doesn't mean that the degree is legal or accredited. However, some countries require this document to legalize foreign degrees, an apostille can be enough to fool some burocrats in some countries but it does not guarantee acceptance.

    as a question

Does this mean that in general the apostille is absoluty worthless.

I am not talking about accredited, not accredited, state accreditation, national accreditation, regional accreditation, etc.....

What is the value behind it (the apostille not the degree)?

No the apostille is not absolutely worthless. But, it does not have the meaning that some try to give it.

The apostile is a certification by a governement agency that the document you are sending is a true and accurate copy of the original document.

Say you are applying for a job in a foreign country and they want a copy of your degree. What do you do, send them your original degree or make a copy of the degree and send them the copy? I would make a copy, take it to the embassy or consulate for that country and have a consular agent verify (apostile) that the copy is a true and accurate copy of the original. Note, it DOES NOT say that the origianl is not a forgery or a fake, but only that the copy is true and accuarate copy of the original.
