Liberian Government statement about Robertstown

A staff member from Josef Silny & Associates Inc., a respected credential evaluator, requested information from the National Commission on Higher Education of the Republic of Liberia concerning the accreditation of Robertstown University. With the permission of Mr. Silny, here is the reply:

Subject: False Claim of Accreditation of Robertstown University

Dear Mr. Buford,

This will acknowledge receipt of your inquiry concerning the verification of accreditation of Robertstown University by the National Commission on Higher Education of the Republic of Liberia.

Please be informed that the Commission has never, at any time, accredited Robertstown University, as claimed falsely by certain unscrupulous individuals. Mr. Lawrence Bestman, the former Executive Director of the Commission had been dismissed since October 14, 2003; hence he cannot approve any such accreditation. In fact, according to the National Policy on Higher Education in Liberia, the Executive Director alone cannot accredit any institution.

Accreditation is a process that involves a series of procedures that take place through the proper channel. Some of the major steps include: 1) An application form must be obtained, completed and submitted to the National Commission for processing; 2)A Verification Team is sent to whatever location of an institution indicated on the form to ascertain whether the information is correct; 3) The Commission then recommends that institution that meets the requirements to the National Legislature to be chartered; and 4) Only institutions qualified by the Commission and chartered by the National Legislature are granted a TEMPORARY OPERATIONAL PERMIT PENDING THEIR ACCREDITATION.

In fact, no institution is chartered unless authorized by the Commission. In short any institution claiming to be accredited by the National Commission on Higher Education must show or present an evidence of accreditation which is signed by me and approves by the Chairperson of the Commission who is also the MINISTER OF EDUCATION, Republic of Liberia.

Finally, do not lend credence to any scandalous accreditation from anywhere or any individual/s.
