Has anyone heard of this school? Or is it a New Mill?

Almeda University offers traditional and non-traditional distance learning programs that can help you earn a university degree from your own home without taking time away from work or family.

Correction. I meant to say degree mill, not diploma mill.

    Evidence?

I have never heard of this school, granted.

But there are thousands of schools worldwide.

Sorry to appear rude, but, er, can I see some evidence please that this is a degree mill?

Other than the ODA (which is being sued by Kennedy Western as unconstitutional)

and of course, other than CRAAP (sorry GAAP) which are is a fictitious idea that doesn't legally exist.

    Thanks

    Guilty until proven Innocent?

    Okay, now I understand.

Here, a school is considered GUILTY until it proves itself INNOCENT?

    Great system. NOT!

    ;)

P.S. GAAP does not exist with any authority whatsoever. Sorry

  8. Simply put...

Let me put it forward much more simply.

Almeda University is a school that has no physical address. You can't find them if you try.

Almeda University is a school that has no obvious phone numbers, no way to talk to the "President", for example.

Almeda University is a school where you can send them a resume and they will send you an advanced degree for a fee, based on your "life experience".

These degrees can include PhDs, for a price.

Almeda University is not recognized by any of the standard accreditation bodies or authorities in the US (CHEA or one of the regional accreditation organizations).

No one of these things taken in isolation mean that it is a diploma mill.

All of them taken together can lead one to hardly any other conclusion, unless someone more creative than me can state it?

    Hmmm...

This all reminds me of another fraud that calls itself a school.... It goes by the name of..... B U X T O N! :D

Well of course they have an address. It's a security door at a crappy strip mall in South Florida. The name's not on the door or anything, but if you had a warrant you could probably get in to see this institute of higher learning.

  11. Re: Re: Simply put...

Crappy strip malls in South Florida is a phenomenom I've recently become much more familiar with, since I have been living here for the past couple of years.

One thing that never fails to amaze me is how often health care providers seem to have their offices in these crappy strip malls. It isn't like being in any other part of America, where doctor and dentist offices are clean, neat, and part of the suburban landscape. No. Here in South Florida, it seems more like going to doctors and dentists in some third world country, with some ancient decrepit strip mall office, barred windows, and metal chairs in the waiting room. And these are the GOOD places!

Doesn't surprise me that "universities" choose this venue as well!

I like your signature Khan. So true, GW is truly a Karl Rove marketing masterpiece. Too bad Karl is an unethical POS.

    Utter idiocy

Almeda University is a school that has no physical address. You can't find them if you try.

Fred: So they operate from a mailing address? Many small schools do.

Almeda University is a school that has no obvious phone numbers, no way to talk to the "President", for example.

Fred: So you can just phone up Harvard and talk to the president any time you like can you? Come on Carl!

Almeda University is a school where you can send them a resume and they will send you an advanced degree for a fee, based on your "life experience".

Fred: Providing the evaluation process is legitimate, what's your point?

These degrees can include PhDs, for a price.

Fred: Providing the evaluation process is legitimate, what's your point?

Almeda University is not recognized by any of the standard accreditation bodies or authorities in the US (CHEA or one of the regional accreditation organizations).

Fred: Is it a US school? If not, that CHEA argument is flawed.

No one of these things taken in isolation mean that it is a diploma mill.

Fred: Without evidence, how can you brand this a mill?

All of them taken together can lead one to hardly any other conclusion, unless someone more creative than me can state it?

Fred: It is likely a small and new school with limited funding? Accreditation is voluntary anyway, but a school needs to be in operation for a while to be considered accreditation, surely?

Enjoying the discussion, or lack thereof .

Almeda sends me the monthly newsletter and I am NO alumni. Still choose to receive it though as it has some intersting things on it. I also get a laugh or to as well. Nevertheless interesting.

I called Almeda and they told me that, if you have a bachelors degree, a Masters degree is usually granted based on the information on your application. They sometimes require a job description, but most of the time the app is so detailed they do not need a job description.

If you have 5 , sometimes 10 , years work experience in a field, it qualifies you for a masters degree. That sounds pretty shady to me. Even the mother of all scams, Columbia State University, required some work for a degree.
