Someone has now quoted a document denouncing St Regis on the site Bob references.

  5. Well, I guess that brings this sordid little ruse to an end, doesn't it?

Ok, so does this therefore make all previously conferred St Regis University degrees, essentially worthless?

    Cheers,

No. They were always worthless. Now it's just common knowledge.

The DegreeInfo proofreading service is ready to help...

Maybe someone ought to call Saint Regis so they'll know to start correcting their web pages?

Note that the statement comes from the government in Monrovia to be relayed by the Embassy. This is to be contrasted with a statement some months back that came from a fax machine in a convenience store down the street.

    pigeons, of course

You know, I didn't really think that all those pigeons REALLY had college degrees.

To all those academic frauds that try to justify your worthless degree mill degrees by claiming that your particular degree mill is operating legally so that your degree must be valid, read the announcment and weep.

    The Saint Regis response

Saint Regis has put a "visit us soon" front page without links at saintregis.edu.lr . In addition, the Robertstown domain www.ru-edu.ac appears to have been unregistered, though www.robertstownuniversity.ac is still there, and still claiming Liberian recognition. James Monroe is gone too: the www.jmuniversity.ac domain appears to have been de-registered. The National Board of Education site is still up, and still claiming that "National Board of Education (NBE) is recognized by the Education Ministry of The Republic of Liberia." The Branford Academy site at www.branfordacademy.com is also off the air.

It looks like AdvancedU.org has now been dramatically edited as well.

It's good that you caught this text when you did, since I no longer see it. It includes some interesting stuff:

That's not really surprising. What's surprising is that they admitted it.

It's interesting that despite our being told that Bestman was relieved of his job in 2003, he was the one who contacted SRU a month ago and was the recipient of the "large amount of money" that SRU recently sent to Monrovia.

So the people who tried their level best to scam "GAAP" apparently got conned themselves. If Bestman was the guy collecting all those $50,000 NBOE accreditation payments, he's probably independently wealthy by now, at least by West African standards.

It's really ironic to hear whining about victimization by unscrupulous Liberians coming from people who made it their own business to sell phony "RA-equivalent" academic credentials and accreditations.

What's that saying about honor among thieves?

    probably not

The information posted to DegreeInfo over the last year or two would suggest that little (if any) money flowed into the hands of Africans.

Let's see if I understand the situation. We have a degree mill, SRU, claiming that a Dr. Bestman bested them out of large sums of money. We have a degree mill that has become famous on DegreeInfo for fabricating really huge whoopers whining that "their" government neglected to let them know earlier that their accreditation didn't satisfy the new rules.

I don't know what is really true from the things stated by SRU. All I know is that in the past they have seemed to consistently tell lies. I would guess that most everything they state is still probably lies.

A Liberian Embassy representative told me that the denunciation of St Regis was initiated by the new Liberian ambassador, Mr Minor.

I noticed that Adam Smith University, another "Liberian special," is starting to panic. On its website there is now a carefully worded section about degree evaluators which was not there before, replete with weasel phrases like "most countries" "Most evaluators", etc. There is also a complaint about fake ASU websites and a disclaimer about them--but I've never ever seen any such fake websites, so what is to be disclaimed may well be past statements on the real website that no longer suit...

They have reason to panic. The Liberian Embassy says Adam Smith University, though not connected with SRU, "is the same sort of operation," and is no Liberian university that they've ever heard of.

You know, for us this is an exposure of just another scam. For the Liberians, this is a step back to civil society and the rule of law. In my conversations with the Embassy over the years, this was the first where something between glee and pride was confidently expressed by the Liberians.

    What a great day!

Re: Re: The Saint Regis response

I wouldn't be so quick to allow the SRU people to portray themselves as the unwitting victims of a corrupt political regime or some solo con artist. You don't send a "large amount of money" to anyone, anywhere without knowing exactly what is going on. This is especially true with a country like Liberia where everything is in chaos. You wire money into official government accounts or somesuch method of doing legitimate business in a transparent manner. These guys are good liars and like all good liars they never, never, never stop lying.
