Following a tip from a post on another channel...

An announcement by "[email protected]" proclaims the opening of the Bangalore Institute of Science, Technology, and Management. There's also a cheesy first draft of the BISTM site which the .org site is probably meant to supplant.

Recall that university-services.net is a domain used by the Saint Regis gang, and that Azad is an SRU faculty guy. He even has a link to SRU on a page in the cheesy site.

As one would expect from this sort of entity of higher something-or-other, the domain registration information is hidden.

The site sells materials associated with credentials in medical imaging, medical laboratory work, and so forth. Azad's site says the degree programs (with which these materials are associated) are offered by "Kalinga University."

From this Saint Regis page: "The following Universities accept Credit Transfer or Accept SRU Degrees for higher education:
Kalinga University, Raichur..." so that says something about Kalinga.

Indeed. Beware. Someone somewhere said that the idea of a technikon in Bangalore was itself risible. Certainly not! Bangalore is pretty much the capital of IT in India. All the more reason to be wary. The location lends credibility to what, in this instance, appears to deserve none.

Kalinga is a private university whose authority to grant degrees is similar to that of a state licensed institution in the U.S.

There are hundreds of such private universities in India (in Chhattisgarh in particular).

IIRC, we have discussed some others here.

other Bangalore institutes and the SRU-BISTM connection

It appears that there are (or have been) the (legitimate) Bangalore institutes named "Bangalore Institute of Science" and "Bangalore Institute of Technology." It does not seem likely that Mr. Azad has convinced these two to fuse under his leadership, and then allow a joint web site containing almost no information to be spun for them with hidden registration.

Oh, by the way: the "cheesy first draft pages" at url http://bistm.tripod.com/ are gone now.

The domain registration information for the slightly different URL'd page www.bistm.com is NOT hidden: lookee here!

I am hoping we'lll get to see a campus photo so we can tell if the SRU-India furniture has taken a trip across the hall to BISTM. You see, the SRU-India address is Jayanagar 3rd Block, Bangalore as is the BISTM address.

    please say "thank you"

The domain registration on www.bistm.com has been changed to RegisterFly Whois protection service (kinda sounds like something made of latex, doesn't it?):

What are you suggesting Galanga - that this site is being watched by SRU? My, I thought this place was like AED and was only the domain of 20 or so people that the world did not know and neither cared about! :p

    Cheers,

    George

See ,In the last part of pay order you can see

"Preferred Graduation Date - You may specify your preferred graduation date.

IMPORTANT: To be VALID your degree must be dated after 1984. This is because SRU was Chartered in 1984.

IMPORTANT: Because SRU was ACCREDITED August 28, 2002, if you will be having your degree evaluated by a foreign evaluation agency for equivalence to a US or Canadian (or other country) degree it can only be positively attested IF your graduation date is AFTER August 28, 2002"

In conclusion, this school is relating with SRU.

    Kalinga Illegal!

My very reliable sources in India tell me that Kalinga University was incorporated under an Act of Parliament in the State of Chhattisgarh.

However, it has failed to comply with subsequent government requirements and has been delisted by the government.

The State government is in the process of taking legal action against them to stop them operating.

Our friends at the Bangalore Institute are apparently making as much hay as possible whilst the sun shines and selling as many degrees as possible before the curtain ultimately falls on Kalinga.

    Sai Baba! Zowie!

Um, if you do a google on Sai Baba you will find many and curious things, latest being charges of child molestation as reported in Times of India and India Express. He seems to be regarded as some sort of god by his followers and has been accused of cultism by orthodox Hindus.

Your Richard Simmons line tipped me off to look at this stuff. Before I did, I thought, "it must be Sai Baba", and it was.

For starters, including subsidiary links to Doordarshan's expose and the SABC brouhaha:

Or the fuzzy gent's own uh panoply:

He is not to be confused with this person, also regarded as a god

    http://www.saibabaofshirdi.net/

IIRC, the Sai Temple in Chicago is devoted to this one, not the living fellow with the Don King do.

    he is offline

Sai Baba of Shirdi "left his mortal body in 1918" so he's not going to be answering any emails concerning accreditation. That other guy, now that's a different story!

I find it interesting how frequently smarmy things come to light when one looks into the activities of operators-of-unaccredited-degree-granting-entities. It's not like one finds that they build wooden boats or raise orchids. Rather, they market dubious treatments for cancer, or sell "tips" for participation in reality TV programs, or run a (fee-charging) service for the registration of UFO sightings whose records are maintained by the "Official Transcript Verification Center," formerly of 611 Pennsylvania Avenue, suite 211.

    BISTM blows up too

The BISTM site at http://www.bistm.org/ is now requiring a password. Maybe it is now the "Bang Galore Institute."

See the various threads about the Liberian Ministry of Education zapping Saint Regis for related information.
