Has anyone else had the same experience I am having with the application process to Unisa thourgh IACI-USA/ Canada? I have been waiting since February to hear back and Dr. Esselen assures me that there is nothing to do but wait. It took me a year to make the decision to go with Unisa after looking extensively in Austrailia and the U.K. I want to get under way and am acutally considering going elsewhere. Any words of advice from those who have been or currently enrolled?

I will bow to those whose experience is more direct than my own but it has been mentioned numerous times on this forum that direct contact by telephone is frequently the best course for someone who is stuck in that process. Ask the good Doctor who the proper contacts are or just plow ahead and call the Admissions Office. It may cost you a few bucks in long-distance charges but think of what you'll save by avoiding all that costly hair replacement treatment ;)
    Good luck,
    Jack

    Peter,

Patience, they are very slow. I applied for the PhD in information systems and got some news after 8 months, by then I was already enrolled in another school. I'm currently enrolled in an australian school, although the course work went well, the dissertation is very slow, my supervisor takes months before getting any feedback from dissertation chapters.

    Peter,
UNISA is slow at the best of times. It took me nearly six months before I heard from them. You should periodically do a progress check with Dr. Esselen. He has direct contact with the admissions committee at UNISA. You should try to contact him this week.
    Best wishes,

Actually, I'm confused... which one, UNISA or UniSA? UNISA South Africa or UniSA Australia?

If UNISA (SA), I also enquired with them via email in 2002 and received a reply after a year or so, and no clear info.

Someone recommended this school, now, for a PhD, and am also currently looking at any possibility on this.

    regards,

    UNISA revisited

Thanks all for responding to my inquiry. I will continue to hang in there, but meanwhile I am taking a look at University of Zululand, Pretoria and some other SA schools as alternatives.

I have read some of the discussion about Zululand vs. Unisa. etc. I can't seem to get a fix on what all the options might be when it comes to a Phd by distance from some of the S. Africa schools.
Maybe I just can't figure out how to navigate their web sites.

My file is growing with all the research I am doing on research degree's (thanks John Bear) and I don't want to miss anything.
If anyone can help me fill in the blanks__________.

    p.s. UNISA=University of South Africa.
