I was just getting ready to post this. It is a very interesting read.

I have a couple friends thinking law school here in CA. Unfortunately they have both been looking at approved, not accredited, schools; a mistake in my opinion.

One of the DL law-specialty sites (sorry, dunno which one) has piles and piles of ferocious criticism of the evanescent Mr Narkin.

I just hope he doesn't cause too much of a dark cloud to form over D/L JD programs, generally. One of the articles talked about how it's causing the California Committee of Bar Examiners to consider more oversight of such institutions. One bad apple shouldn't spoil this whole barrel.

Switching gears a little: So, everyone, when we're saying that Narkin has "disappeared," do we mean in the sense that he's just not responding to anyone in his capacity as owner of the school, or do we mean he's literally packed his stuff and left his front door swinging in the night? Does anyone know how to get hold of this guy? I, for one, would like to discuss purchasing his school from him (for less and less as each day passes) and giving it its credibility back -- and, by so doing, maybe also helping keep the knucklehad out of jail.

The "cloud" has hung over correspondence legal education since the late 1800s. This doesn't help any.

Still, in October 2003, at least ONE person became a lawyer through Saratoga, a 20% pass rate.

I think CalBar might consider requiring "brief" residency, say, 10 days per academic year. In part, there could be some advocacy education but mostly, its harder to run a fly-by-night school when your students are forced to actually SEE your operation...

John: The once-disbarred, but later re-barred* lawyer who started British-American Law School explored buying Bernadean University (which was once California-bar-qualified), but decided it would be much simpler to start his own, and no baggage (no "absolution of sins" certificates). It took him about 4 or 5 months from start to California approval.

And now British-Armenian has a new spinoff, Laurel Law School, offering all the same stuff at somewhat lower prices, functioning conjointly with BAU, not enjoying CalBar approval, and offering a totally unintelligible raison d'etre. I don't get it.

    Friends,

Approved but not accredited? No wonder the Superior University Education in the USA is under such problems.

How can you have one and not the other. A license to operate a University would be valid anywhere in the world.

    From the Chronicle: PAPER CHASE

"A virtual law school in California has unexpectedly closed down, leaving students unable to get transcripts or refunds, and some of them spoiling for a fight."
