Man sues over potato scallop fall

    Yes, this one is weird.

It doesn't really have anything to do with DL. But it's clear that his PWU degrees are being used against him to question his honesty. From the article:
    • He said he had a doctorate in law, a science degree in climatology, an arts degree and an electrical engineering degree from Pacific Western University in California.

He completed them all between 1982 and 1988 via correspondence, the court was told.

But under cross-examination he said he had lost all documentation regarding the degrees when he was divorced in 1992.

"Do you have any documentary evidence to support your claim?" counsel for Winston Hills Mall, Michael Robinson, asked.

"No I'm afraid I don't," Mr Sheehan replied. "When I was divorced the paperwork was with my wife and it seems to have disappeared."

He also admitted that his degrees were only legitimate within California despite him using the title doctor on his letterhead.

Mr Sheehan could also offer no explanation to why his certificate of discharge from the NSW Police in the early 1980s had no date on it or why there was no record of his employment.

It sounds like he's unlikely to win. They made him look dishonest plus even if you decide to believe that the accidents happened as he described them, he was in car accidents which are generally more likely to cause long term physical problems than is falling down.

His story is unconvincing. The judge would have been more sympathetic with his case had he slipped on a banana peel in front of the old ENRON headquarters.

I know PWU is unaccredited and all, but don't they issue transcripts or keep records of graduations? "I lost the paperwork..." "Ah, get NEW paperwork?"

There have been multiple instances that indicates that PWU does in fact keep records. Columbia State University also kept records.

The story is quite high profile here in Australia. Apparently he has sued a variety of individuals and organisations for most of his life. Could it be just bad luck?

    Cheers,

Sounds to me like: "My, um, dog ate my homework." :D

The modern variant is, "My computer was messing up."
