Recall that URLs for fake Liberian embassy web sites have been kicking around for some months: http://www.liberianembassy.com/ and http://www.liberiaembassy.com/. Contained in these sites was a list of "schools" which included Saint Regis, Robertstown, James Monroe. (The list is, for the moment, still on the web.)

The bogus web sites now post the announcement that "The official website of the Embassy of the Republic of Liberia has been changed. The new web site can be found at WWW.EMBASSYOFLIBERIA.ORG"

This seems to be the real embassy web site. Its domain registration is as follows:

    Domain Name:EMBASSYOFLIBERIA.ORG
    Created On:15-Jul-2004 13:39:08 UTC
    Last Updated On:15-Jul-2004 17:13:39 UTC
    Expiration Date:15-Jul-2005 13:39:08 UTC
    Registrant Name:Abdoulaye Dukule
    Registrant Organization:Embassy of Liberia
    Registrant Street1:5201 16th Street
    Registrant City: Washington, D.C,
    Registrant State/Province: District of Columbia
    Registrant Postal Code:20011
    Registrant Country:US

    Registrant Phone:+1.2027230437
    Registrant FAX:+1.2027230436
    Registrant Email: [email protected]

Abdoulaye Dukule is Associate Editor for The Perspective and writes frequently about Liberian matters.

The Embassy web site includes a press release (which can also be found elsewhere on the web):
The genuine embassy web site does not display a list of recognized universities. It does not mention Saint Regis anywhere on the site.

Hmmm, I wonder if it might be possible that SRU is not really accredited in Liberia! I know that this may or may not be a shocking and seemingly absurd idea but I throw it out as just an interesting thought. If it were true though I'm afraid that it would mean that a diploma mill would be trying to mislead and misinform the public.

You just might be right, Bill. That would be an interesting thing to pursue with, perhaps, Minister Kandakai. I notice that the ubiquitous Mr Dunbar is listed on the new site, and he was quite a propenent of NBOE. It would be interesting for someone (no, it cannot be me) to quiz him about what accreditation status is enjoyed by which universities under the current, new, legal government. The old puzzler Adam Smith might come under scrutiny, too, for it claimed Liberian acc but was no part of NBOE or the St Regis ganglion.
