    To all, greetings,

I came across this Bible college website, who offers only christian distance education, and found it a bit interesting.

I also found the prerequistites for entrance into their Doc. programs to be quite rigorous.

It has no recognizable accreditation, however, would anybody consider this college a degree mill?

Any thoughts either way, just curious! I'm just trying to learn what makes a good college.

The website says they are in the process of moving from California to North Carolina and at this moment, there appears to be no address, no phone, and no fax. (I just phoned the 'official' URL registration phone number: out of service.)

The founder is Bishop Doctor Roosevelt Chea. I know that a person named Chea was discussed in this forum once -- memorable because it is the same name as the Council on Higher Education Accreditation -- but it would probably be nearly impossible to search for, given the huge number of CHEA references.

Mark Israel is missed, yet again.

Actually, it looks to me as though their doctoral prerequisites are not at all rigorous. A masters degree (which could be from any hole-in-the-web school) is hardly an impressive standard. There are a few other things, in addition to what John has noted which should make you leery.

One, they are an unknown without a reputation. You might possibly learn something from an unknown entity. But if you want a recognized credential then stick with those who have somehow earned a reputation.

Secondly, there isn't really enough breadth in the faculty to support all of the degrees they offer.

Furthermore, that the faculty's academic credentials are listed without the schools where they obtained the degrees is another red flag.

There is nothing on the site which even suggests that these people are academically qualified to teach what they say they offer. Does that make them a degree mill? At the very least it should move the indicator bar on your crap detector.

Ah, yes, the good old crap detector.

I know Ernest Hemingway popularized the term, in writing about how to be a good writer, but I've never been able to learn whether he invented it or not. It's not in the Partridge's Dictionary of Slang that I have.

    To boyston,

    Crap detector?

That is a first, I'll have to try to remember that one!

I'm not really promoting the school, they just seem to offer, what looks like substantial programs for a school that doesn't have any recognized accreditation!

That's just my opion, but you could be right!

That would be Daniel Chea, Defense Minister of Liberia under Charles Taylor. Uncle Janko originally brought this to our attention in this DegreeInfo post. An article on how Chea's reappointment threatens the peace in Liberia can be found here.
