Mmmm, an interesting one. Previous debate at http://www.degreeinfo.com/static/forum_archive/1/11918/thread_11918_page_1.html

    Website at http://www.iugrad.com/

    Following claims need attention:

The University is incorporated in St. Kitts, W.I. under English law and derives its degree-granting powers from the Companies Act. The University is fully accredited by The Government of The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, West Indies.

If this is the case, then why does it claim accreditation from the WAUC - see http://www.web-hed.com/wauc/universities.htm and IAS, see http://www.usias.org/IntAccredited.htm

I also see a link back to one Norma Ross - the name rings a bell, and I can't quite place where I came across her before, but I am sure it was related to some ventures on the BVIs.

    Cheers,

    George

    Dr. Ross and IUGS

    Hi George,

Take a look here to find

    International University for Graduate Studies
    U.S. Information Center
3611 Henry Hudson Parkway Riverdale, NY 10463
    Norma Ross, PsyD, NCPsyA, Director
    Phone: 877-484-7231; Fax: 718-796-3612
Shear Lane, Delisle Gardens, Box 884
    Basseterre, St. Kitts, W.I.
    E-mail: [email protected]

So Dr. Ross is involved. From this Google cache we find
The address of the Rockland Institute is

    Rockland Institute for Psychotherapy
    Norma Ross
    254 South Main Street
    New City, NY 10956
    845-634-5353
    www.rocklandinstitute.com

I suppose it's just a concidence, but New City, NY is also the town in which the "Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of the United States of America in collaboration with American International University" domain www.rcpsaiu.com is registered.

The IUGS Application for Admission gives the fax number (718 796-3612 for IUGS. That number also appears on this WAUC page for "International University" and here for "VitaChart, Inc."

Here's an odd thing, possibly a slip by a webmaster doing a cut-and-paste thing. The following quote is from the St. Augustine University accreditation page.
If one looks at the Wayback Machine's February 17, 2003 archive of the IUGS accreditation page one finds the text
Also in the archive is a descriptin of the residency requirement for IUGS:
I find myself wondering if the residency requirement is in place to satisfy various legal matters concerning operation of IUGS.

    There's more about IUGS here.

For those unaware, WAUC is a bogus accrediting agency whose main purpose is to be used by degree mills to mislead students into believing that the school is accredited.

Licensure requirements vary state by state. You really need to contact the NJ licensing board as to acceptability of this "school".

but, if you want my "opinion" I can give it. Blahh! I can get a cheaper vacation package else where and get more value fro my money!

    IUGS in Chronicle article

From Psst. Wanna Buy a Ph.D.? Some professors have dubious doctorates, other professors sell them, and colleges often look the other way, Thomas Bartlett and Scott Smallwood, Chronicle of Higher Education, June 25, 2004:
I realize this is a long quote, but the full article runs to 10.5 pages so perhaps the Chronicle will tolerate its length.

Dr. Freda Crews has her PhD from here I believe and is a faculty member (she is involved with the legitmate American Association of Christian Counselors). What is amazing is that she has a very ligitimate DMin but I guess wanted to spice up her credentials with a PhD. When you already have an accredited doctorate why spoil it with an UnA one (especially...)

I knew a former Chaplain who had an accredited DMin but he too wanted the PhD and got one which he wore with a great deal of pride. He got his PhD from...........Columbia Pacific University.

    Why...........oh..........Why...............

If I can get an accredited doctorate of any kind I will be happy.

    Quote from above

"quote:On the Web site of Mercy College, in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., Benjamin B. Weisman, a professor of business, lists an honorary doctorate from the International University for Graduate Studies. The degree is there alongside his master's and Ph.D. from New York University."

Doesn't Rich's Berne-grad buddy, Dr. Hassad teach at Mercy too.

What's up at Mercy? When I get my CCU DBA, maybe I can run the place.

I don't recall seeing an ad for an outright diploma mill in the New York Times. But in today's edition, there's an ad for International University for Graduate Studies.

The headline on the ad is "You May Have Completed All Your Graduate Course Requirements to Earn Your Doctorate" (emphasis in the original).

The ad also states: "Fully Accredited"

Bull-loney. Incorporating in St. Kitts (or anywhere else) gives you no more Kittitian degree-granting authority than incorporating in Oregon gives you Oregonian degree-granting authority.

Also, a phone number of 877-484-7231 means U.S. or Canada, and a fax number of 718-796-3612 means New York City.

They thus fail two of my big tests for international universities: whether they lie, and whether their office is where their accreditation (or n this case lack thereof) is.

They were not impressive. Pricey considering as I recall you needed to complete work at accredited schools and transfer it in.

Not sure if they are accredited in St. Kitts. I did not recall them on St. Kitts lists of accredited schools.

On top of all of that even if they were accredited in St. Kitts that is not guarentee of any acceptance. Look at Berne. Managed to stay listed in the International Handbook, very bad write up on the Oregon Education web site (contains a very damaging letter by the Federal Student Loan folks).

Whyinvest your money here??? Cheaper and likely much more useful to get a South African/British/AU research doctorate.
